Not long after he left, Midoriya still felt Y/N's presence. Similar to how someone recalled a touch or sound, Izuku felt the unnatural warmth when at Y/N's side, and his teeth tingled as his ears rang when there wasn't a thing in the world to make a sound.

It was calming in a way. However, it still made him no less anxious. Standing at Y/N's side could only be described as lingering beside a domesticated beast. You had no earthly idea if it would strike with reason, or because you looked at it wrong.

But in the end, when All Might shut the door to a little pickup truck, he simply had to stall his training to ask.

"Hmm?" All Might immediately raised a concerned brow when Midoriya sat on the overturned fridge. "What's the matter?"

"Umm... Y/N was just here not too long ago." Izuku said, kicking his legs with a thoughtful look on his face.

"Was he?" Toshinori seemed eased at the thought when he set down a bag of food and drinks. "Did he—have anything to say?"

"Not anything in particular, no." He muttered. "It looked like he was just running."

"Yeah..." All Might murmured, growing more concerned by the second with the boy's shrunken nature. "What did you two talk about?"

"I asked about his quirk, and..."

"Ahhh, you talked about that, did you?"

"We did, but has he always been so—intense?"

"What do you mean?" Toshinori asked with his brows raised in surprise.

"I'm not sure how to explain it. It was kind of like—a feeling in the air."

"I see." The pro-hero nodded. "That would be his original quirk, energy manipulation. He's able to manifest a sort of energy that strings from his life force. He doesn't really have a way of turning it off, unfortunately."

"N-no." Izuku shook his head as his frame experienced a near shutter. "It's something else."

"Mmm..." Approaching, the tall man sat beside him with a look of recollection. "I know what you mean, and he wouldn't blame you. I wouldn't put it past anyone to feel that way about him either."

This emotion, the energy, it made the air thick and muggy with his overwhelming presence. It would be comforting to others, such as his wife, but to Deku, it was eerie, wrong. Experiencing such tranquil energy only felt like a facade to what was underneath.

"The stories about him..." Midoriya sighed, eased by All Might's presence. "Were they—true?"

"It depends." Toshinori shrugged. "I assume he told you about his parents?"

"Y-Yeah. They were villains..."

"I would say they were more acolytes than anything."

The years had come and gone, but he remembered it well. The day he met Y/N.

"He was born and raised in America. The state of California to be specific. Now... the world was a very different place twenty-six years ago, one teeming with crime and corruption."

All Might was new to the hero game back then, and still a citizen of America where he studied as a transferring student.

It was like any other day of being a hero, but today could be described as a stroke of monumental luck or destiny.

Following a lead from a group of villains he put away, he found himself in Nevada, where he was convinced this would be the biggest bust in American history. And in a way, it was.
