Killian pov
My dad had just brought me to the hospital for my treatments. At this point, it's just a routine. The treatments just keep me from dying, but they don't help me other than that. My dad said he would come back to pick me up later, just like he does every week. I made my way to the lounge in the cancer ward and stayed there until it was time for my treatments. Once it was time, a nurse came and called me into the room. I sat down on the chair and she left. Usually, Nurse Connors comes to give me my treatment but today someone else came. It was a beautiful blonde. She looked about my age. I couldn't help it, I just stared at her. She was so damn gorgeous. She had the most stunning green emerald eyes and blonde hair that was like a river of gold. As soon as we locked eyes, I felt a spark inside me. A connection. After a minute, she snapped out of it and asked me;
Rosie - "Are you Killian?"
Killian - "Yeah, that's me. Um, I don't mean to be rude or offensive when I say this, but who are you?"
Rosie - "I'm supposed to tell you to call me Nurse Gentry, but call me Rosie"
Killian - "Got it... Rosie"
She smiled. Her smile was the most beautiful thing on the plant. Seriously, what was happening to me?
Rosie - "Um... I'm your new nurse"
Killian - "I figured. What happened to Nurse Connors? Not that I'm not happy that you're my new nurse. I mean... um-"
Rosie - (chuckles) "She's going on maternity leave so I'm just getting settled in and learning the ropes before she leaves"
Killian - "Aren't you a bit young? No offence"
Rosie - "None taken. I graduated from medical school a month ago and was offered a job here. I'm sixteen"
Killian - "Oh... I'm seventeen"
Rosie - "Yeah I saw it on your file. Not that I was looking through your file like a creepy person. Uh"
I chuckled. There was something about her that just made me smile. The feeling was so strong, that I couldn't describe it.
Rosie - "I guess we should start your treatment..."
Killian - "Yeah... I guess we should"
We were staring into each other's eyes, not wanting the moment to end. I noticed something, though. She was hurting from something, something really bad, that she was trying to hide.
Rosie - (blushes) "Well, it says here that you have been here for a while, so I'm assuming you know what's happening"
Killian - "I practically do them myself and Nurse Connors just supervises me"
Rosie - "Yeah. It says here that you've had cancer for almost 11 years?"
I sighed and nodded.
Killian - "The treatment isn't helping me but at least the cancer isn't getting worse"
Rosie - "Yeah..."
Killian - "So should we, umm, get started?"
Rosie - "Oh, yeah, right. That's my job"
She started my treatments and we were just talking. Normally, I would work on my novel while I was doing my treatments but today I was just sitting and laughing with her. While we were talking, it felt like I had known her for years. I was genuinely happy. Don't get me wrong, I'm not depressed, but this kind of happiness felt different. Though if you asked me, I couldn't explain how. After an hour, we finished my treatments, but it felt like time flew by. I guess I was talking with Rosie for so long.
Killian - "Wow. It's already been an hour"
Rosie - "Yeah, time really flew by"
Killian - "Will I see you next week, then?"
Rosie - "I hope so"
Killian - (smiles) "Me too"
I got up to leave but before I walked out, I turned to look at Rosie.
Killian - "Could I maybe.... get your number?"
Rosie - (nods) "Sure
I passed her my phone and she put her number on it. I walked out of the room smiling. I could tell my dad was a little bit confused. I followed him out to the car where my mom and sister were. I opened the door and sat down.
Taylor - "Why are you so happy?"
Killian - "What you mean, Tay?"
Christine (Killian's mom) - "She means that you're smiling more than usual"
Killian - "Jeez, you make it sound like I'm depressed"
Elliot (Killian's dad) - "No, but they're right son. Hey, I didn't see Nurse Connors today"
Killian - "Oh, she's going on maternity leave"
Christine - "Really? So who is doing your treatments now?"
Killian - (smiles) "Her name is Rosie"
Taylor - "Oh my god, you're in love"
Killian - "What? No"
Elliot - "Son, if she's a nurse, how old is she?"
Killian - "Actually, she's six months younger than me"
Christine - "Wow, that's so young"
Killian - "Yeah, she's gifted. She said she graduated from med school about a month ago"
Elliot - "You know, the way you're smiling now is exactly the same way I was smiling when I met your mom, kid"
Killian - "Okay, calm down guys"
Everyone laughed and we went back to Hullbeck, the town where we live. We picked up lunch on the way there. It was Sunday and it was already three o'clock by the time we got back, so I decided to do homework, eat dinner, take a shower, and do some more homework, then I went on my phone for a bit. When it was ten o'clock, I decided to text Rosie to see if the was okay.
