~*~*~ (I swear this thing changes every time)
Simon watched Isabelle out of the corner of his eye. She was tapping her foot angrily and probably praying the cabbie would drive faster. Simon had gotten a call from Clary saying that Izzy thought Alec had done the spell, and so the stuff for Jace would be waiting at the address. That address was what the cabbie was driving Simon, Izzy, and Clary (Maryse refused to come) to now. Simon wasn't all that close to Alec (or Jace), but seeing his girlfriend and parabatai on edge had made him worried enough to start thinking of those bad-ending scenarios where the world plunges into darkness and everyone dies. Those are NOT fun, Simon thought.
"Can you drive faster?" Isabelle bit out at the cabbie, who had introduced herself at the start of the drive as Macie.
"I'm driving the speed limit, Miss." Macie said, making a turn onto a new road. Simon thought he heard her voice shake, which wouldn't have been surprising considering how pissed Izzy looked.
"Can you drive a little over than?" Isabelle retorted harshly.
Macie looked startled before saying, "Miss, I can't-"
Isabelle thrust a wad of money onto her lap. "Drive faster." She said. Macie immediately took the money and shoved it in her pocket, then picked up ten more miles per hour. Simon could almost hear the smug smile laced with worry that was on Izzy's face right now.
Clary glanced over at Simon from the other side of Isabelle, probably wondering if he was just as suprised about the cabbie picking up speed as she was. Simon just shrugged, Izzy was Izzy and when she wanted something no one got in her way, especially not some cabbie with an odd spelled name.
After about another ten minutes (it would have normally been twenty) the three of them arrived at the now abandoned house that used to be where Kara and Ben stayed. The three of them hopped out of the car, and Izzy shoved some more money in Macie's hand before she took off.
Simon glanced the building up and down. "Still looks like a death house," he said. "and I still don't want to go in there."
Clary glanced around the yard from their spot on the sidewalk. "We might not have to," she said. "It could be in the yard."
Isabelle nodded. "Spread out, find it ASAP."
Simon rushed off towards the side of the house, which was extremely creepy. But Izzy had already taken the front, and Clary the back, so he had no choice. Simon scanned the side of the building and the window ledges, half expecting a dementor to spring out of the bushes and kill him. It was unlikely, but it could happen.
Simon felt the edges of the windows, and searched the yard with his improved vision (due to the rune he had put on earlier), looking for any sign of any cure to Jace. What were they even looking for? Simon had no idea, and neither did anyone else. The grass hadn't been cut in forever, making it hard to find anything, and the brick was falling off the house. Could something be in there? Simon felt the edges of the loose bricks, but there wasn't-
"I found something!" Clary's shout rang through the silent street. Simon immediately stopped looking and ran to the back of the yard to find Clary holding a small capsule. Isabelle emerged behind Simon and bumped into him from behind, almost causing him to fall over.
"Sorry," she said quickly, before they both peered over at what Clary was holding. It was a small capsule, and when she twisted it it opened. Inside was a small sheet of paper and a tube of liquid.
Clary read the sheet of paper aloud. "'So, based on you finding this I'm assuming you know your precious Alexander can't love anymore.'" Clary frowned. "Jerks," she muttered before continuing. "'Hopefully your warlock friend can figure out how to give this to Jonathan before he dies, if he isn't too damaged by his loss of Alec.'"
Simon looked down and saw Isabelle clench her fists beside him. Whether it was the use of Jace's full name, or the insult at Magnus, Simon didn't know.
"'Good luck! Without love, Kara and Ben.'" Clary finished. She shoved the paper back in the capsule and sealed it shut, cure inside. "Lamest note I have ever read." She said.
"Agreed." Simon nodded. "So, we catch a cab back to the Institute and call Magnus?"
"You make it sound like it's that easy." Isabelle said coldy, turning to face Simon. "Catch a cab back to the Institute and call Magnus then he can solve allll out problems and bring Alec back. Yay!"
"Iz-" Simon said, mildly hurt.
"Nevermind. Just forget it, let's go back."
Clary glanced quickly between the two of them, but didn't say anything. And even though Isabelle made fun of Simon's plan, it's still exactly what they did. They went back to the Institute and called Magnus.
