Chapter 6

Magnus heard a knock on the door. He didn't want to talk to anybody. Even Chairman Meow was locked away in a room.

"WHO DARES DISTURB THE HIGH WARLOCK OF BROOKLYN?" He bellowed from his spot on the couch.

"Tessa," a voice said.

Magnus signed and rolled over so his face was in a pillow. "Why are you here?" He asked.

"You called me." Tessa replied, pushing the door open.

"I did?" He mumbled into the pillow, his tone not really careing at all.

Tessa walked over to a chair across from the couch Magnus was laying on, and sat down. "You have clients you know," she said. "I had to push my way through quite a few Downworlders to get here."

Magnus grunted.

Tessa fiddled with her hands. "Oh, by the way, some of them think I'm a doctor." She bit her lip.

Magnus just grunted again. He really didn't seem to care. Wow, Tessa thought. She remembered that all this was because him and the Lightwood boy broke up, the one that looks like Will.

There was a long spell of silence. Tessa filled it by looking around the room, Magnus by laying on his stomach on the couch and keeping his face in a pillow.

"Do you think this is how he felt?" Magnus suddenly asked, turning around so he was on his back.

"What?"

"Do you think this is how Alec felt when I broke up with him?"

Tessa looked around at the take-out boxes littering the room, and the smell of alcohol left over from his party weeks ago. He could have just snapped his fingers and cleaned iy up, but he hasn't had the will to do even that.

"Probably." She said.

Magnus rolled on his side and looked at her. His eyes were sunken and had eye bags under them. He appeared to be wearing makeup but it was smeared and looked like he hadn't taken it off in a week.

"You really love him, don't you?" Tessa stood up and walked over to the couch, sitting beside Magnus who had sat up.

Magnus nodded. "I love him and I've messed up." He looked at his knees.

"What...exactly did you do?" Tessa said. "If I may ask."

"I cheated on him."

Tessa couldn't help the small gasp that escaped her lips.

"Magnus..." She breathed.

"I know." He sighed. "Alec's never going to take me back."

Tessa knew what she had to say. She turned Magnus' face so he was looking at her. He had tear stains on his face. Magnus never cried.

"Magnus, listen to me." She took her hand away from his face but he kept looking at her. "Somewhere Alec is probably feeling the same way you are. Maybe he's having an internal conflict with himself, he's angry at you, but he also loves you."

"Or maybe he's okay without me."

"Maybe. I doubt it though. Magnus, you'll never know unless you talk to him."

Tessa got up, and walked to the door. She opened it and just as she was about to walk away she turned to face Magnus who was watching her over the back of the couch.

"Magnus. Talk to him." And then she walked away, the door clicking closed behind her.

Magnus laid back down and stared at the ceiling, Tessa's words echoing in his head.
