Dani

The ride back to our pack house was quicker than when we left, or it seemed like it to me.

When we got there our former Alpha and Luna set up activities to keep people occupied. Bingo for whomever wanted to play and the younger kids played on the playground. With the ever watchful eyes of moms, siblings, grandparents, or just monitors present.

I decided to help with getting food and drinks out for everyone. I had been so busy at first I didn't have time to worry about mom and dad, let alone our pregnant Luna and everyone else.

However when everyone was settled I no longer had that distraction. I ended up curled up on a couch in the library looking up at the ceiling. It has the night sky and constellations painted on it.

My parents taught me how to read the stars, so I'm able to find those constellations now as I try desperately not to worry.

"Oh sorry I didn't realize someone else was here," a voice says next to my couch.

Looking over I see Alpha Dante, I sit up and offer the other side of my couch. With a nod he sits next to me.

"Sorry to steal your quiet hideout I just need a quiet moment to center myself," he says resting his head against the back of the couch.

"Its fine, I'm just trying not to worry, do you want me to go?" I ask and he grabs my feet and stretches my legs out over his lap.

"Nope, you're my blanket you have to stay," he says with his eyes closed and I giggle. He cracks an eye open looking at me and smiles.

"Where are your siblings?" I ask looking around.

"With your Granny playing bingo, she was worried about you so I said I would look for you. This library is quite something, cozy but still huge. Oh that's cool," he says looking up.

"Yeah I like coming here when I need to zen and stop worrying for a bit. I've even helped my Luna look for books before this all happened. Right now I can't stop worrying about my parents, I just had this feeling a while ago. Like an elephant sat on my chest, so I came here to try calming myself. You don't think... it's not a sign right?" I ask my voice going up an octave.

"I don't know, but I do know that you're not alone. No matter what the future holds you are not alone." He says softly making my heart flutter and my ears burn.

"We should probably get going, knowing my siblings they will start getting rowdy soon, not that Gran can't handle them but..." he leaves the rest unsaid and I just giggle at the look on his face.

We stand and walk out of the library together, I just learned we are going to go to the same school when it starts up again when we heard the commotion.

Running out we see warriors coming back, "I'm sorry but I have to go," Alpha Dante says and I nod.

I run over to Gramms, "have you seen mom and dad yet?" I ask while looking over all the warriors trying to find them.

"No baby, but I just heard that some of our people haven't made it back yet, some were taken to a special hospital I'm not sure yet." She says as she scans the crowd also.

"Excuse me Honorable former Luna, I was just informed that our lost are being magically transferred to your morgue," I hear one of the elders say quietly and I feel that pain again and a pull to head that way.

Oh Goddess, please tell me I'm wrong. I sprint to the hospital wing, flying to where the dead are sent before burial.
Bursting through the doors I see crystal looking coffins lining the floor. I start by forcing myself to look at each face.

"What are you doing in here? You're not supposed to be in here you need to go," I hear someone say but that is the last thing I hear and am truly aware of. Laying infront of me in coffins next to each other are my parents.

I don't notice that I've fallen to my knees infront of them. I don't notice that tears are flowing out of my eyes nonstop. I don't even realize that the guttural scream that is bouncing off the walls is coming from me.

I feel like my whole world just came to a stop. My heart hurts so much, I can't breathe, then the world goes black.

Pack M.E.

I was only gone for a minute but when I got back there was a girl frantically searching the faces of our dead.

I called out to her hopeing to stop her before she found what she was no doubt wishing beyond hope not to find. Unfortunately I failed, because she stopped and in the next moment was on her knees letting out a cry so full of anguish. Her cry was so loud it hurt my very soul.

I hadn't realized who she was till I got close enough to see whom she had found. "Dani, Dani can you hear me?" I ask but she never responded instead she slumped over sideways clutching her chest.

I immediately picked her up and ran sending a link to the pack doctor to get her seen. We already lost her parents, we will not be letting her die as well. I heard it's rare but some wolves have died from heartbreak before. Not just from losing ones mate, though that is the most common cause.

I just placed her on a gurnee when and older woman came rushing over.

"DANI! What's happened why is she like this?" She demands.

"Ma'am please let me get her into a room for the doctor, then I can fill you in."

I get Dani situated, inform the doctor about what happened, and now I have to tell the woman and if I'm correct she is Dani's maternal grandmother.

I hate this part of my job, seeing the family members mourning the loss of their loved ones. Unfortunately for me, I'm going to have a long day and this is only the start.
