Chapter 47: Alive

My eyes were filled with tears as I held (y/n), slightly rocking back and forth with my lips pressed to her forehead.

'I need to keep her safe'.

I squeezed the chaos emerald and
carefully placed it in her hands and held them shut.
Hoping she will subconsciously redraw energy from it.

If that's even is a thing she can do...

I gently lifted (y/n) up.

"I'll get you to safety, love"

The sky was darkening more and more by the second.
Heavy rain filled clouds obscured the moon.

I glanced down at (Y/n).
Faint white light escaping through her hands.
The back her quills looked gray and dull in the last traces of moonlight.

I held her closer.
"Hold on love, you'll be okay"

Cold wind picked up.
It began to rain weakly.
I felt (Y/n) shudder slightly.

I quickened my pace.
"We're almost there love"

I finally saw houses in the distance.
None of them had any indication that anyone was awake.

Except for one.

A very faint light could be seen from one window.
Although it may have seemed faint, because I was quite far away from it.

"He's still awake. Oh chaos"

I ran down the small hill, quickly making my way to the house.

I knocked.
I could hear distant voices.

"Who do you suppose that is?"

"Don't know. I mean it's nearly 3 AM"

"I'll go get it"

The door opened.
It was Sonic.

"Oh! Shadow What's-"

"Sonic? Is everything alright?"
Tails asked standing up from the couch.

"Just peachy" he answered, sitting down onto the couch.

I stood in the doorway, looking back at the door to the room (Y/n) is resting in.
I looked back at Sonic.

He narrowed his eyes at me.

Tails looked at the both of us with a puzzled look.

Sonic crossed his arms, tapping his foot impatiently.

"Explain"

"Explain what?"

"Wh- You turn up in the middle of the night, with my sister, who died nearly a month ago... In space... What do you mean 'Explain what'?!"

I looked off to the side in thought.

Tails looked between me and Sonic.
"What are you two on about?"

Sonic glared at me.

"(Y/n) is alive"
He said with a hint of sadness in his voice, turning his head slightly towards Tails.

"What?"
Tails's gaze snapped at me.

I sighed and leaned on the wall.

I looked back up at Sonic.
"Remember the talk we had, back on the Typhoon a month or so?"

"When you found the photo?"

I nodded.

"Yeah, why?"
He frowned in confusion.
