After Richard walked away from the sofa Lillian was lying on, Lillian slowly opened her eyes. What did he mean by those questions he asked, and why was there so much pain in his voice. At this point Lillian's worries became more evident even in her expression. As she tried to get up from the sofa to go and confront Richard and ask what he meant by the questions she just heard him ask, she heard his footsteps again coming down from the stairs.

Tensing up again, she quickly laid down back on the sofa and listened to his soft footsteps draw closer to her and the next moment a soft blanket was placed on her body and not long after that, she heard his retreating footsteps.

Still lying there Lillian clutched the blanket tightly in her hands, recalling once again what Richard had earlier said.

She had initially thought that what was bothering him was work related but it was starting to seem that it was far deeper than that.

But then again how on earth could he ask that kind of question " did you ever love me"? She whispered to herself lying there and she answered the question she heard him whisper earlier

" I have only ever loved you and only you".

He didn't even have to ask.....because she was scared of how much she loved him. He probably didn't realize it yet but he had the power to hurt her greatly and very deeply.

'LOVE'  She suddenly recalled that she never really received love while growing up. Her father barely knew she existed because he took to the bottles. He would always yell at her saying

'Never forget you are living in place of someone else' according to him her mother died a few hours after giving birth to her which was the reason why he always said that to her.

On one of the occasions he even told her that if he had to choose between who he should have saved he would have surely chosen his wife. Never forgetting to imply that he hated her existence. Her father sometimes would break and scatter things around the house  when he was drunk and as a child she would always get scared.  And when he wasn't drunk, he would barely look at her. One would ask how she survived that period of her life but she did because of Mrs.  Williams.

Mrs. Williams was an old woman who lived near by. She had met her on one of the nights her father kicked her out of the house on a drunken state by literally shoving her out of the house.

The old woman took her home and fed her that night, she slept there and after that night, the old woman told her to drop by often since she didn't have company most of the time and one day, she summoned up the courage to ask " Mrs. Williams don't you have any family" the old woman slowly stood up and walked to the picture of a young man who was putting on an army uniform. She picked the picture frame up, And holding it to her chest she said " I used to have a son my child but I lost him because of a war he and his colleagues were sent to fight". Dropping the photo frame she turned to Lillian and said " but I won't be lonely anymore since I have you now".

And indeed Mrs. Williams was of great help and comfort during that time in her life.

Not too long after that when she had turned 10 years old, her father told her to pack her things that they were going on a trip and In her happiness, she did since she never spent time with her father, she thought the heavens have finally answered her prayers and that perhaps her father was changing and beginning to accept her and perhaps even forgive her.

But once again the universe must have something against her because her father took her to an orphanage that day and registered her there. When he  began to leave, with a teary face she ran up to him and held him and asked " but father why are you leaving me here isn't this a place for children who have no parents, father please forgive me. If I've been a bad child I know I can't bring mother back but please don't leave me here".

Her father turned around and looked at her face for the first time that day and said to Lillian " my dear please forgive your father for never giving you the love you deserve. Stay safe and be happy". And with that he was gone..... she tried to run after him shouting ,crying and begging saying " father please don't go! come back"! But he never did and  she never saw him after that day.

She cried so much after her father left and she refused to eat for days she didn't speak audibly or freely to anyone for the first six months of her  And after those six months she made a friend....Anita.

Anita was the only one she could talk to and they soon became inseparable they both told each other their stories and they grew up together. luckily for them the orphanage was funded by a very rich woman who was also an orphan herself while growing up she would always say to the children " you children are quite lucky back in the days  we would go to bed hungry because people barely had enough to eat let alone donating to an orphanage".  She ran a scholarship program for the children. And because Lillian was such a bright and cheerful student after opening up to the people and making a lot of friends, she took a liking to her and adopted her and till date, she called her mother.

Perhaps because she didn't have so much people to show her love while growing up, when she met Richard and fell in love with him, she decided to give him all that love. The one she couldn't give to her biological mother or father so then  how could he ask such a question?.

Upon having all these thoughts she slept off on the sofa with her cheeks tear stained and she had just one thought in her mind " what on earth had gone so wrong and why was Richard so disturbed"?.
