Chapter 32: the Shitty Valentine

Olivia POV

It was just a normal day. I didn't care that it was the 14th of February and Luke had so far made no effort to show any affection. Heck, a rock could show more emotion.

But it wasn't a big deal because valentines day is just a social construct.

The school do this thing where people can buy a gift for each other and the teachers hand them out in classes, so far I had nothing, Chelsea had 7, claire had 3 and all of them were from Michael.

But it's only lunch so anything could happen.

I was sitting with Claire, Michael, Ashton and Calum trying to ignore the lovebirds that were everywhere today. Ashton and Calum were stuck to their phones talking to Tessa and Lucy.

Luke was nowhere to be seen.

"Hey you" I hear from next to me, thinking it's Luke I look up happily, but it's only Justin.

"Oh hey," I say with a weak smile.

He smiles holding out a red box in front of him, "here, happy valentines day" he says.

"Oh, Justin you really didn't have to get me anything..." I shake my head.

"Don't be silly, Liv, I wanted to" he smiles down at me, pushing the box towards me.

The others are all too preoccupied to notice what's happening and I don't know what to do, "thank you, but I hope you know I only see you as a friend... right?"

"Oh, um yeah... course I knew that... but take it anyway, I brought it with you in mind," he says still pushing me to open it.

I see Luke appear from the corner of my eye and decide to fuck it and open the gift because it's probably the only one I will get if Luke hasn't bothered. I open the box gently seeing the tissue paper with tiny hearts wrapped around a necklace with my name spelt out. I hate stuff like this, Olivia is such a common name too so he probably just found it on amazon, but for the sake of pissing off Luke, I try and act like I love it. "Oh thank you, I love it can you put it on for me?" I smile at him taking the necklace out of the packaging.

He smiles and gets up to help me with the necklace, it makes me feel sick feeling his hands do up the clasp behind me. "I'm glad you like it, I was thinking if you don't have anything else on we can go to the dinner after class,"

I hadn't spoken to luke about plans but I assumed he was gonna do something, plus i really don't wanna spend time with Justin today. "I actually already have plans, maybe another time?" I say trying to keep a smile on my face as I lie to him.

I spot Luke starts wandering over but walks past us to go sit outside. I feel my phone buzz in my pocket and assume it's him. "I have to go now actually my chemistry teacher wanted to look over something with me," I say as I get upbringing my half-eaten sandwich with me. I look at my phone as I walk and see Lukes, message asking me to meet him outside.

Luke POV

Watching Olivia and Justin together understandably made me a mix of mad and jealous. I've been telling her for weeks that Justin is only being her friend because he's into her but she doesn't seem to care.

And the way she acted when she saw me bothered me too as if she was doing it deliberately.

I was waiting around the back of the school, nobody ever came back here so felt it was safe to meet back there. After about 10 minutes she appears around the corner and I lean again the tree next to me s she approaches, "what the fuck was that?" I say crossing my arms and raising an eyebrow.

She stops about a metre away"Before you even start, I told him that he was only a friend to me and he still pushed for me to take this stupid necklace and I didn't want to hurt his feelings so I accepted it. Plus you've not made any effort today so I guess it was nice to actually have someone give me a little attention today..." she rambles passing back and forth.

Before she can say much more I grab her arm lightly, "stop. Breathe." I say looking into her eyes. "can I speak now...?" I say after her breathing is back to normal. she simply nodded so I continued, "I was always going to give you something, I just felt school wasn't the right place... in fact, I was so panicked about the whole thing that I was avoiding you so I didn't blurt it out..." This was all true, I was planning to surprise her tonight with a dinner date and even bought a lame gift, not as lame as justice's but still lame.

She looks up at me biting her lip, "well now I just feel bad..." she sighs, putting a hand through her hair.

I chuckle pulling her closer and wrapping my arms around her waist, "happy valentines day dork."

"Happy valentines day dickhead" she chuckles, pulling me down to kiss her.

Anonymous POV

I'm used to seeing unusual things happen around the campus, and I enjoy investigating them. So when I spotted Olivia Ortega disappear at lunch break I decided to follow her. Let's just say I've had an ongoing grudge against her and this could be the moment I get my payback. I follow her around the back of the school where nobody else is and hide behind a bush as I spot Luke Hemmings leaning on a tree. Ortega is approaching him looking all nervous, I can't hear what they say but within a few minutes, they are kissing so I assume they are secretly or something dating. That bitch. This is perfect for my plan I take a quick picture of them where it's obvious that it is her and quickly escape my hiding spot.
