My friends had all left around seven. I was studying at the nearby coffee shop, wanting to get a decent grade on my test tomorrow. As I was sitting, I couldn't help but wonder why my teacher would give a test on a Tuesday, though I was thankful that it wasn't a Monday. Of course, math was not my strong suit, but I was pretty sure that I was making steady gains. Frowning when I noticed my drink was officially gone, I grabbed my phone, opening the app that I usually paid with. Keeping an eye on my laptop, I ordered the same drink I had gotten previously, waiting for it to be made before sitting back down. Looking at my computer, I copied problems down, trying to work them out, but only getting about one for every three right. Sighing, I sipped my drink, jumping when I felt arms wrap around me.
"What are you working on, love?"
"Stop doing stuff like that," I muttered. "You know it scares me."
"Yeah, but I'm cuddly, so you can't be that angry."
"Whatever," I laughed. "How did you even spot me? I'm literally all the way in the back."
Harry shrugged. "Only you could pull off the ugliest fucking outfits."
I knew he had a point, but I still rolled my eyes at his words. The grey leggings did not match with my red shirt and checkered Vans. I looked down at his shoes, smiling at the yellow Converse. For some reason, I thought the shoes were cute now, Harry sitting in the seat beside me and taking out his laptop.
"What are you working on?" I asked.
"I have to code something for my teacher."
"Ooh, you're so smart."
He smiled, kissing the top of my head. I asked if he would get me a water when he got up to get something, Harry nodding, and asking if I wanted anything else. Suggesting a cake pop, he laughed, but I knew he would end up getting it for me anyway. Continuing with math, I thanked him when he sat down, Harry giving me a small bag that had two cake pops in it.
"You're the best!"
He shrugged, looking at my math as I ate one of the cake pops. I watched as he circled pieces of my problems that I had tried to work out, Harry doing them himself on his own paper. He was way quicker at them, and I was truly jealous, but I didn't point it out to him.
"You make the same mistake in all of your problems. You have an issue keeping track of the negatives, and that screws you up."
"Oh."
He shrugged. "You'll get it. I believe in you."
Without really thinking, I hugged him, Harry appearing surprised at first before hugging me back. It wasn't very long before we were both working on our own things next to one another, Harry and I concentrating better than I had expected. Although, after about two hours passed, I got a text from my mom asking where I was. Explaining that I was still studying for math, she said she wanted me home soon.
"I have to go," I told Harry, starting to pack my things up.
"Did you drive?"
"I was just going to walk."
"Uh, no," he said. "You're not walking at night by yourself. Good try."
I watched as he saved his work on his laptop, Harry packing his things up also. We threw away our trash as we headed out the door, my chest tightening when he entwined our fingers without a second thought. My cheeks were red, and I was actually extremely surprised by the action, knowing that we had held hands when it was just the two of us, but never when we were out and about.
