It was with great regret that Kagami entered the court for the game against Shutoku.  He had made a complicated decision.  When weighing the scales, he had not only put his own desires but other's too.

Was he worried about Tatsuya? So much, to the point of losing sleep. But if he decided to stay home, grieving, Kuroko and Midorima would stay too, to help protect him.  He took into consideration of the Beta's feelings,  of his  teammate's feelings, The coach,  Hyuuga senpai and the others had tried too hard to be abandoned when they had come this far.  It seemed such a selfish decision...

So he chose to push his concern for his brother to the bottom of his heart and, at least for those four quarters, immerse himself in basketball.

Aomine, of course, was nearby, with his cell phone in his pocket in case the phone rang.  Akashi, Momoi and Kise were also there.  Murasakibara had gone to the adjoining court, where his school would have a game.

The Alpha's presence was an immeasurable comfort.  Despite all the tension, he made Taiga relax naturally and was able to focus on the shots.  As if Daiki was the certainty that everything would end well, no matter what obstacles lay ahead.  Perhaps it was the bond of companions that provided the impression, but Kagami didn't complain.

Thanks to that, he got the concentration needed to play one of the most difficult matches of his life.  Shutoku was a high school with a strong basketball tradition.  They were all human holders, with the exception of Midorima.

And the guy was a monster in pitching!  He could throw the ball very high, and the delay in reaching the basket destroyed the nerves of opponents who watched to see whether or not it would enter the basket.  The bespectacled Beta's motto was as good for his predictions as he was for his shots: he never missed.  No matter which spot on the court he threw the ball from, his power, direction and calculations were perfect.

Every time Seirin converted two points, Midorima resorted to absurd shots, converted three and increased the difference on the scoreboard.  So much pressure, passion and  competitiveness ignited Taiga, who found himself playing for real, along with Kuroko.

The duo reacted quickly and promptly.  Seirin was an offensive team and went head up.  Even Midorima's strategy was unable to hold them back.  In an most  impressive comeback, after fierce competition, Seirin won and went on to the next round.

As soon as Kagami left the court, the euphoria of victory faded. He refused to go with his teammates to celebrate the victory.  He went to meet with Aomine, who watched the game from the top of the stands along with Momoi.

"Congratulations, Tai-chan!" the girl smiled. " It was a great game, Congratulations Tetsu-kun". She also greeted the other boy, watching him for a long time and only received a simple nod back.

It wasn't the first time that Kagami felt the awkward atmosphere between the two of them, added to something more delicate and more obvious.  But he didn't find an opening to talk to Kuroko, always reserved about his intimacy.  Equally, he didn't consider himself close enough to question the girl.  It remained then to ask Aomine, as soon as the chance arose.

" Congratulations, Baka " Aomine also greeted. " You know that Seirin's next match will be against Touou, right? "

The redhead stared at Daiki. Never seen the boy on the court, he was anxious for the possibility of playing for real against Alpha. He hoped nothing would get in the way until then, which reminded him of something urgent.

"Any contact?"  he asked, referring to Himuro's cell phone.

'Nothing," Aomine replied bluntly. " Do you want to go back to the apartment now?  I will stay there with you."
