The wait turned out to be the worst part of Kagami's precarious plan. After arranging the mattress to hide the broken bed frame, he had sat down and waited. He was impatient and hot headed, he couldn't concentrate and calculate whether several hours had passed or a few.
Every now and then Daiki made contact, probing the situation. Perhaps by capturing high doses of his anxiety. In those moments, Taiga would reassure him that everything was still okay and make sure that Alpha himself was okay too.
It was a relief that they hadn't done more harm to the already injured boy. For some reason he didn't understand, why Aomine looked weakened. This was part of Hanamiya's scheme. The anguish of capturing his weak and injured companion brought a sense of helplessness, of uselessness. And guilt.
After all, he had been brought in as a weapon to harm Kagami. A piece to deepen that negative bond, as the enemy had previously boasted. It made sense, they were on a full moon, heading toward waning. But the influence of the current cycle was still strong, he felt it in himself.
He also felt the strength of the Mark in his body. Unconsciously, he brought a hand to his neck and touched the slowly healing scar. He knew the sensitive skin still had ugly blemishes and it hurt a little, not as much as before, though.
Taiga was beginning to understand a little of that world. Just add the information and even a child would understand, they needed the full moon to mark a shifter, but without a deep bond the Mark Daiki had given him would not be surpassed. So Kentaro would have to wait a month, in the certainty that he would create a bond strong enough to affect Taiga. Not completely though, after all, he clearly remembered the words he'd heard in the first conversation in his apartment, when Kise or Kuroko had told him that Daiki and he would have a mate bond. A bond created by love. And that was the only kind of bond that couldn't be broken.
He needed to admit one thing, even reluctantly. He felt the negative bond starting to take shape. Kagami couldn't control it. He thought about what he was suffering at that moment. In what Daiki suffered, and waves of grudge and anger washed over him. All aimed at enemies. He still didn't focus directly on one, despising Alpha and Beta alike But he knew that would soon change.
As soon as Kentaro took the initiative to harm him directly, or worse Daiki, he would become the target of every bad feeling that Kagami could harbor! Kagami couldn't help it, he had a human part after all. He would never be kidnapped, mistreated, or watch someone important suffer and remain void. He didn't have cockroach blood!
The cycle seemed endless. He was anxious to understand all these facts. The anguish brought despair for not being able to control himself. Despair caused more grudge against the Pack that made them suffer like this. All of this added up and began the draft of a deep negative bond. Exactly what Hanamiya and his gang wanted.
With a loud grunt, he dropped back onto the mattress and regretted it almost immediately. He had forgotten about the makeshift bat that was on the bed and ended up scratching his back.
He got to his feet and walked in circles. Expectation and anxiety racking his nerves mercilessly. He sat down again some time later, taking a deep breath.
It was then that his heightened senses picked up the movement outside the room. The Beta guarding the door walked away silently. But Kagami's inner animal stirred, sensing the proximity of the Alpha and his apparent right-hand man coming in that direction.
Immediately he was on his feet. He took his weapon and hid it behind his back, holding it steady with both hands and trying not to look suspicious as much as possible.
