My shoulder-length hair danced along with the wind as the car where I departed passed behind me. Stretching my neck and my arms, I checked if my eye gear and earpiece were online. The sound of my black knee-length boots echoed at the silent empty junction as I walked inside the alley. The old buildings left a rusty odor along with a fading foul-smelling raw meat. It feels like I'm in a horror film, the cold air is adding to the atmosphere that the place is more like a ghost town now.
Last week, it was reported that Neo Norte along with Neo Proper was attacked by an unknown beast causing the people to evacuate to the nearby district. Those arrogant higher hunters! Mas pinili pa nila kunin ang misyon na makapagtataas sa kanila ng puntos kaysa sumagip. We're not trying to be heroes. We just don't want to stain our seniors' legacy, the first batch of Malory.
The earpiece on my left beeped as I continued strolling the dead street. Other than the bright moonlight accompanying me there are still lights flickering from the buildings and street lights.
"A reptile," a voice of a man spoke. Napairap ako sa narinig. Why when it's my time there goes the one I hate?
"Sorry, Ate Bree. Just noticed it!" Ngayon ay boses babae naman ang nagsalita. I heard from the earpiece their chuckles though they tried to surpress it.
"Tangina mo, Kio!" Malutong na mura ko. Mas lumakas pa ang kanilang tawa. But I stiffed when I heard something being moved. I loaded my pistol and gripped it as I slowly walked down towards the sound.
"Check it for me," utos ko kay Takio. Dinig ko ang mabilis na pagpindot niya sa kanyang ipod. Mayroon pa rin namang pagkakataong seryoso siya sa ginagawa niya.
"It's just a poor wild cat but the one--" I sighed in relief and put down my gun then unloaded it.
"-we're looking for is just-" nagulat ako nang biglang humiyaw ang pusa sa akin saka tumakbo at nagtago.
"-behind you..." I was stunned when I heard the beast hissed. Pinasakit ng malansa nitong amoy ang ilong ko. I loaded my gun again and alertly turned around. I just saw its black-scaled tail. I slowly stepped forward to see if the species was still there.
"How long?" I asked.
"10 meters long, a diameter of 45 inches and a 800 pounds Black Mamba," sagot ni Alcmene na nagpamura sa akin. May narinig akong sigaw sa paloob ng kabilang kalye kaya naging alisto ako. That thing must be there.
"Ngayon mo harapin ang totoong takot, Bree. Don't rely on a hologram taught by your professor," pananakot sa akin ni Takio.
It happened when our professor on zoology unexpectedly brought a virtual reptile they once called a snake. I found it gross and it makes me goosebumps so I thanked God that they are now extinct. Kung hindi lang sana dahil sa mga bida-bidang scientists. Tch.
I just gritted my teeth and ran towards the person I just heard crying for help.
"Alki, to the back of the old hotel," utos ni Takio sa kasama niya. Agad naman itong sumunod dahil dinig ko ang mabilis na pag-andar ng sinakyan ko kanina.
Nadatnan ko ang isang lalaking patakbo rin papunta sa akin. Sinenyasan niya akong huwag lumapit ngunit sinalubong ko pa rin siya. I place my eye gear and turned on my night vision. A profile status of the snake appeared in front of my eyes. It is now 15 meters away from us.
"Y-you-" hindi nagtuloy ang sasabihin ng lalaki nang napansing niya ang baril na hawak ko. Takot at nanginginig siyang nagpunta sa likod ko.
"Y-You're a h-hunter?" I didn't answer him instead I just smirked.
