"YOU LIKE HIM," NANCY SMIRKED AS SHE SIDE EYED LENNON FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE CAR. Lennon rolled her eyes playfully, the song, "How Soon Is Now?" by The Smiths playing softly in the background. The windows were rolled down, the Hawkins summer air flowing in freely. Lennon wished she'd brought a hair tie as her hair flew out the window in every which way.

"I barely even know him," the girl replied simply, though she couldn't hide the small smile that came to her face as the image of Steve, all tanned and glowing, came to mind. She wasn't lying, technically. She didn't exactly like him. He just piqued her interest, that was all.

"Yeah, well, you could get to know him," Nancy suggested. "I'm sure you'll see him again soon. Hawkins is a very small town, he can't be too hard to find."

Lennon thought about that for a second. There weren't too many places to hang out around here, at least that she knew of. She guessed she would just have to come back to the pool and hope that he was there.

"Where does a guy like Steve even hang out?" She sighed, kicking her feet up onto the dashboard as she relaxed into the seat more. After the pool, they'd decided to go out of town to do some shopping. Hawkins didn't have much of a selection, and what they did have was what everybody wore.

"I'm sure you'd have luck finding him in the beauty aisle at Bradley's Big Buy," her best friend replied with a smile.

"I bet he spends hours in there studying the labels on each hair gel," Lennon giggled. "I wanna know what he uses to make it look like that."

"You could always ask," Nancy replied as they pulled up to a small boutique about 30 minutes outside of town.

"A magician never reveals his secrets," the brunette said as she got out of the car. The two of them headed into the boutique, though Lennon was really just along for the ride. She didn't have a job and hated asking her mom for money, so she figured she would just window shop and come back when she could afford something.

The girls entered the shop, still joking about Steve's hair, when Lennon noticed Nancy close off and instantly head over to the rack furthest away from other customers and begin to search. With a furrowed brow, Lennon looked around to see who else was in the store. The only other people besides them were the two ladies working the counter, an elderly woman, and a group of girls their age. They were laughing quietly, looking over in Nancy's direction.

"Who are they?" Lennon asked as she approached her best friend's side. Nancy continued to search through the clothes, though Lennon could tell she wasn't really looking at anything.

"Who?" Was all the girl said in response. Lennon looked back up at the girls, who caught her looking at them and instantly started laughing again.

She could tell by their hair and clothes that they were rich. So was Nancy, but she wasn't as obvious about it as they were. Lennon assumed they were probably popular, and by the way they acted when they saw Nancy, they most likely went to Hawkins High.
