Summer break was finally here.
The exams had finished and the holidays had started.
That usually meant that the teens went back home for summer: Kai was going to visit their mum, and Amelia was going home, as was Tom and Ashley.
"You'll ring me when you get there?" Amelia asked as they stood outside the college, she was griping onto their jumper.
"Yes, I already said I would" Kai found it cute that Amelia was being so vulnerable about them leaving.
"Promise?" Kai leant down so their faces were mere centre metres apart.
"I promise" they both smiled before pressing their lips together in a soft lingering kiss.
"Ugh, I'm going to miss you Bartley" Amelia pulled away from the kiss, but pulled them closer by their jumper.
"I'll miss you too shepherd"

"Hey" Amelia smiled when she heard her favourite voice.
"Hi" she jumped onto her bed laying on her front; legs swinging.
"How was your flight?" She asked.
"Tiring"
"You're with your mum now?" She asked being very fond of the woman.
"Yes, she's here" Amelia heard Kai telling their mum that Amelia was on the other end of the phone before she heard a different yet familiar voice on the other end.
"Amelia darling" Amelia smiled.
"Hi Miss Bartley" it was sad to think that Kai's mum sometimes gave her more attention than her birth mum.
"You're doing well?" The older woman asked.
"Very well"
"Kai tells me you're home for the summer holidays" Amelia nodded and hummed in response.
"Well, if Nancy gives you any shit, don't hesitate to call me" Amelia laughed knowing the woman had dealt with her sister before.
"I most definitely will hold you to that offer" both women laughed this time before saying their goodbyes.
"God I miss that woman" Kai laughed before sitting on the sofa in their old childhood home.
"I should be going, mum wants to watch a film" Amelia smiled before sitting up on the edge of the bed.
"Ok, well ring me tomorrow?" She asked.
"Of course" there was a moment of silence before Amelia spoke.
"I miss you" Kai smiled on the other end of the phone.
"I'll be home soon"

Amelia impatiently tapped her feet against the marble flooring of the airport.
Ashley had driven with her as well as Tom to pick Kai up from the airport.
Ashley and Tom had come home from their home towns.
They had been gone for 3 weeks.
3 weeks too long.
They still had 2 weeks of summer break.
Amelia searched the busy airport for kai.
Her heart quickened when she caught sight of her partner.
"Hey miss, I was wondering if you could help me find my girlfriend" Amelia didn't respond, instead she wrapped her arms around their neck and pressed kisses to their face.
Kai wrapped their arms around Amelia's waist, glad to finally hold her again.
After a moment they both released from the hug.
"Welcome home Bartley" Tom high-fived Kai as they scowled at him for using their last name.
"Hey" Ashley waved as she stood next to Tom.
"I'm glad you're home" Amelia whispered as they walked through the crowded airport.
"Me too"

Kai swept their forehead with the back of their hand as they stood in the scorching sun.
Amelia's mother had asked them both to clip the edges of the bushes in their garden.
"Lemonade" Amelia came out holding two glasses of fresh ice cold lemonade.
"Thank you" Kai placed the clipper on the small table before taking the drink from Amelia.
Amelia couldn't hide the fact that Kai hot and sweaty in dungaree's wasn't making her feel something.
Kai sipped on their lemonade through the straw and could feel Amelia's eyes on them.
"You're staring" Amelia ignored them and continued to stare.
"I'm well aware" Amelia swirled the straw around with her tongue as she continued to blatantly check out her partner.
Kai placed the glass on the table before turning so they were facing her.
They placed their hands on her waist as Amelia also placed her glass on the small table.
"You're very attractive" Kai blushed slightly before laughing.
Kai leant down so they could kiss their girlfriend.
Kai took a deep breath as they slid their tongue into Amelia's mouth.
"We have to trim" Amelia breathed, as she forced herself to pull away.
"This is just a little break" Kai smirked before leaning in again.
Amelia gave into the feeling of their lips against her own.
Trimming the bushes could wait.

Kai stirred as they heard noises coming from the bathroom.
They opened their eyes and registered the chain being flushed.
They noticed Amelia's body wasn't next to them so called out for her.
"Amelia" Amelia quietly walked back over to Kai's bed.
"Why are you up?" Amelia pulled the covers so she could get back into bed.
"I needed to pee" she responded as she snuggled closer to Kai, the heat consuming her.
"Ok" they whispered, as they moved their face so it was resting in the crook of her neck.
Amelia moved her hand underneath Kai's shirt and gently ran her nails up and down smooth skin.
Kai released a breath before mumbling into Amelia's neck.
"I love you" Amelia's eyes widened.
Amelia listened to Kai's breathing and assumed they had fallen asleep.
"Kai" she whispered.
She lay still for a moment her hands tracing patterns against their skin.
"I love you too"
