District 4

Conor Maynard's p.o.v

I was really glad that I ripped the mesh off while we were in the chariot, it would have been really uncomfortable to sit through all of the interviews wearing it. The interview that I had been enjoying the most was the District 3 tributes, Niall and Miley. They were a couple, and you could see how much they loved and wanted to protect each other. "What are you going to say?" Selena, sitting beside me, asked. "I don't know what they're going to ask" I said, not wanting her to know that I wasn't prepared. "What if they ask about us?" She asked me. I looked at her, surprised. "What about us?" I asked her. She shook her head, as if she was getting rid of what she wanted to say. "Nothing. Forget I said anything" she said, turning away from me. "Conor, it's your turn" the Peacekeepers called to me. I turned away from Selena and walked towards the stage.

Jessie J: From District 4, Conor Maynard everyone!

Danny O: First of all, we have to complement you on your Opening Ceremony performance. How did you think of destroying the mesh?

Conor: I didn't. I didn't really like it and it was a bit uncomfortable, so I just ripped it off

Jessie J: Were you aware how strong it would make you look?

Conor: No. I didn't do it with an ulterior motive, I just wanted it off.

Danny O: We noticed that Selena Gomez, the other tribute from your District, ripped hers off too. Are you sure it wasn't planned?

Conor: I'm positive.

Jessie J: So, is there anything going on between you and Selena?

Conor: Anything like what? What do you mean?

Danny O: Do you have any romantic feelings towards her?

Conor: Um... I don't really know.

Jessie J: So how do you feel about her?

Conor: I like her. She's a really good friend.

Danny O: But do you think that maybe you could be more than friends?

Conor: Soon we're going to be in the arena. I don't think there's enough time for anything to happen between us.

Jessie J: So, are you saying that, if there was more time, you'd like something to happen between the two of you?

Conor: Maybe. I wouldn't rule anything out. I really like Selena.

Danny O: So anyway, let's move on. What is your strategy to win the Games?

Conor: I don't have a specific strategy. But I don't think anyone should underestimate me.

Jessie J: Why is that?

Conor: I got a 6 at training. It's not much, but it's enough to show that I know what I'm doing.

Danny O: So you're going to be fighting hard?

Conor: Of course, I'm stronger than I look.

Selena Gomez's p.o.v

Since we got into the chariot, I had been looking at Conor in a completely different light. In a way, I saw him in the way that he wanted the other tributes to see him. I saw him as tough, and someone not to be messed with. But I also saw a different side to him, a softer side. I couldn't stop staring at him as we both got out of the chariot. When he smiled at me, I felt my insides tense. There were a lot of people who formed romantic relationships in the Games, but I didn't want that to be us. I liked Conor, but I couldn't love him, not when we were both fighting for survival. "What if they ask about us?" I asked him. "What about us?" he responded, instantly telling me that he didn't feel the same way, so I brushed it off.

"Maybe. I wouldn't rule anything out. I really like Selena" he said in his interview, when asked about me. I couldn't help but smile to myself. If we weren't in the Games, maybe, just maybe, we'd have a chance. But in the Games, I knew that nothing could ever happen between us.

Jessie J: Selena Gomez everyone!

Danny O: So Selena, let's jump right in: do you like Conor?

Selena: Um... I didn't expect that to be the first question. I really like Conor, he's a really good person and a great friend.

Jessie J: But do you like him in a romantic way?

Selena: I don't think anything romantic could happen between us while we're here. I like Conor, but I doubt it will go anywhere.

Danny O: But one of you is going to die. Don't you think it's better to find out what could happen before it's too late?

Selena: Maybe it's better to never know.

Jessie J: Anyway, next topic, you got an 8 at training. Are you a career tribute?

Selena: Yes I am. My mother had been training me for these Games before I even knew what they were. There's no way I couldn't be a career tribute.

Danny O: So do you think you're at an advantage to some of the other tributes?

Selena: No. I don't think training is all there is to these Games. Every single tribute here has a specific set of skills that mean that they could win. A lot of the time, the only difference between a winner and a loser is luck.

Jessie J: And are you generally a lucky person?

Selena: I've had a pretty good life. I don't know if that makes me lucky, but it makes me ready.

Danny O: Ready to win?

Selena: To be honest, if anyone has to win, I'd like it to be Conor. I'm not here to win, I'm here to prove my mother wrong.

Jessie J: What do you mean by that?

Selena: No comment.
