District 6
Jay McGuiness' p.o.v
While watching the other tributes interviews, I couldn't help but feel smug. I had more of a reason to be here than anyone else. Everyone else either got picked and didn't really want to be here, or just volunteered for family, not thinking about the Games. Volunteering because of Max gave me a major advantage, because I didn't really want to win. I didn't want to be an easy target, but dying as Max did seems like the best way to repay my late best friend. And if there was anything I wanted to do, it was to repay Max for what I had done. Nothing else could ever make him forgive me. Dying might.
Jessie J: Jay McGuiness from district 6 everyone!
Danny O: So Jay, you got a 9 at training. That's an amazing score. How do you feel about it?
Jay: I never really expected to get it. I've never been particularly good at anything like that, so to excel in something that I haven't even been trained for it great!
Jessie J: Does this make you a real threat in the competition?
Jay: I'm not sure. To be honest, I assume that everyone in these Games has a specific set of skills, including me. I think that it's anyone's game this year.
Danny O: So, do you think your chances are high?
Jay: I hope so. Higher than some people's anyway.
Jessie J: So, talk us through your outfit.
Jay: Well, because our district's main industry is transportation, my fellow tribute Taylor and I are dressed as mechanics, and the chariot was made to look like a car.
Danny O: That's really impressive. Speaking of your fellow tribute, Taylor, what is your relationship like?
Jay: Relationship?
Jessie J: Like, are you guys friends or do you not acknowledge each other?
Jay: We're friends. I really like Taylor, and I don't think that I could go through all of this by myself, it's nice to have someone what is feeling exactly what I'm feeling at exactly the same time. I know a lot of tributes don't really get on, but I think Taylor and I will.
Danny O: Do you think that you guys could be more than friends?
Jay: I don't think so. I really do like Taylor, but, to be honest, to me, these Games are not about having relationships. If you get into a romantic relationship, there's no point because one or both of you will die definitely. And as well as that, I don't really feel that way about her. If Taylor's going to be anything, she's just a really good friend.
Jessie J: And are you going to allie with her?
Jay: I'm not sure if I'm going to form an alliance with anyone to be honest. I kind of like to work alone, I don't want to make a mistake and get someone else killed. I'm only responsible for myself.
Danny O: And finally, is it right to say that you were friends with last year's tribute Max George.
Jay: Yes
Jessie J: How did his death impact you?
Jay: His death impacted me in a massive way. He was my best friend, I think that would impact anyone.
Danny O: Is he the reason that you volunteered?
Jay: In a way.
Jessie J: What do you mean by that?
Jay: I'm just going to be honest. Max is the reason that I'm here.
Danny O: Why is that?Jay: I'm not just doing this for me. I'm doing it for Max.
Taylor Swift's p.o.v
Watching Jay's interview made me admire him. I already knew that he was here because of Max, but no one else did, because no one understood what has had to go through in the last year with the death of his best friend. I was his friend now and I would never truly understand what it means to lose someone so close to you, closer than anyone else. I only had my parents. Not that I didn't have friends, but my parents are the only people that I would ever have to worry about. They were well respected and strong, so I knew that they would be ok if I wasn't coming back to them.
Jessie J: Taylor Swift everyone!
Danny O: So Taylor, you got a 5 at training. How do you feel about that?
Taylor: To be fair, I know that a 5 is the lowest score in the Games this year, but it doesn't matter to me.
Jessie J: But don't you think this will hinder your chances?
Taylor: I know that people will think of me as a target, and may try to kill me, but I'm prepared for that.
Danny O: How have you been prepared?
Taylor: I never needed to hunt in my District. My parents are really well-respected and we were never short of food while I was growing up. But my parents taught me to hunt from day 1, just in case I would ever need to know, and it turns out I do!
Jessie J: So the 5 means nothing?
Taylor: I'm not the best at fighting. I probably won't be able to kill anyone. But I know how to survive. And the key to winning the Games is surviving the Games.
Danny O: So, let's talk about Jay McGuiness
Taylor: What about him?
Jessie J: How do you feel about him?
Taylor: Why do you guys always try to make everything into a love story?
Danny O: You didn't answer the question.
Taylor: I think Jay is, completely amazing. Seriously. I have never had to go through losing anyone close to me, and I know that I would be completely devastated if that were to happen to me. But Jay handles himself really well and I really think that everyone needs to understand why he's here. He's an inspiration.
Jessie J: That's very true. So you're friends with him?
Taylor: Yes I am, and I'm really happy to know him.
Danny O: Ok, last question: can you win?Taylor: I have no idea. But I know that I'm going to try.
