Niall Horan and Miley Cyrus had been taking turns sleeping all night. Miley awoke as a cannon went off, signalling that another tribute had been killed. "That's the 5th one" Niall whispered to her, sitting outside their camp as she slept. She crawled out and joined him. "18 to go until someone is crowned the winner" she said, leaning her head on her boyfriend's shoulder. "If we get out of this..." Niall said, trailing off. Miley sat up to look at him. "If we get out of this what?" she asked him. He shook his head. "Niall, what?" she asked him, taking his hand. The Games had been going for two days and five people had already been killed. Miley wondered if anyone had received anything from sponsors yet.

Generally, fans from the Capitol or friends and family sent donations or gifts to the mentors. Donations were then used to buy things that would be useful for the tributes. However, you only got sponsors based on your training scores, opening ceremony impressions, interview impressions and performances in the Games. The longer the Games continue, the more expensive the gifts get. "Do you think we'll get any sponsors?" she asked Niall. He shrugged his shoulders. "Niall, what's going on?" she asked him, immediately able to tell that something was wrong. "I wanted to ask you something, but I didn't want to do it like this, here" he said, gesturing to the arena. "Ask me" she said, smiling at him as if she were somewhere else. "If we get out of this... will you marry me?" he asked her. "What? You want us to get married?" Miley asked, the smile leaving her face with shock. "I want to be able to spend the rest of my life with you, no matter how long I have left" he said, holding her hand tightly. Miley thought about it for a moment. "Niall, of course I'll marry you" she said, kissing him and giggling. He smiled and held her tightly, forgetting that they would never be able to marry, because soon, one of them would be dead.

Ariana Grande was alone. She had chosen not to allie with Nathan Sykes, the other tribute from her district, as he was a career tribute, and she didn't want anyone to think that she was affiliated with him. She was her own person and could fend for herself. She was walking around, looking in the trees. She knew that her biggest threats would be hiding in the trees, waiting to pounce on her from above. She knew that no sane person would be on the ground right now, which gave her an advantage. No one expected her to be there. She had obtained a baton in the cornucopia. It was made of plastic and she knew she'd be able to use it if she could get close enough to someone. However, getting close to someone without them spotting her would be the hard part. But still she held the baton in front of her in case anyone tried to surprise-attack her. As she walked, making her footsteps silent, she came across a tent, and heard two people speaking. Their backs were to her and she knew that this was the only chance she would get to use her baton. So she got closer, and hit one of them.

Niall heard it before anything happened. He turned as the girl hit Miley with a baton. As she fell, the girl tried to hit her again. "Don't hurt her" he said, pleading with the girl. She stopped and looked at him. "I need to win" she said, her face tense. "If you touch her again, I'll kill you. Then you have no chance to win" he said. She looked up at him, confused as Miley groaned. "Aren't you going to kill me anyway?" she asked. Niall bent down to help Miley. "If you leave now, I'll pretend I never saw you" he said, looking in Miley's pack to see is she had anything to put pressure on the wound. When he looked up, the girl was gone.

Ariana ran as fast as she could, as fast as her legs could carry her, never looking back. She was angry at herself. If she had a metal bat, she knew that the girl she hit would already be dead. Or if she had hit her harder. But she didn't. She didn't put her full strength behind the blow and, as a result, had left the girl alive, with her allie knowing exactly what she looked like. Ariana knew that he had promised to forget that he had seen her, but what if he had been lying? This was not the place to trust what people said, anyone here would lie to get everyone else killed. What if he was following her right now, waiting for her to slow down so that he could kill her? What if he wanted revenge? What if his allie had died after all, and he made it his sole mission to make sure that Ariana would never win? But she didn't want to think about that, all she wanted to do was be at home. She spotted a tree and began to climb. Being on the ground was never a good idea.

Niall had put Miley in the tent and had examined her wound. They were from District 3 and had been taught basic first aid. She had a bump on her head, but she would be fine. All he had to do was wait for her to wake up. He was thankful that the girl was weak, and had used a plastic weapon. If she had been stronger, or used a metal baton, Miley would already have been dead. He knew that he wouldn't be able to protect them both if someone else came along, so he kept Miley hidden. If one of them had to die, he would make sure that it was him. Miley was strong and had a chance, with or without him. But he knew that if she died, he wouldn't be able to function without her. He just couldn't.
