District 7
Josh Cuthbert's p.o.v
Once we had left the chariot, I grabbed Demi's hand again. I noticed her smile to herself but she didn't say anything. "I never finished what I was saying" I said to her. She looked confused. "When we were on the train, and I said that my feelings for you got complicated" I clarified. "I thought you weren't going to finish" she said, her voice low in case someone from another district heard us. "I wasn't. But I need to tell you before we have the interview. Before one of us almost gets killed" I said. "You need to tell me what?" she asked me. I hesitated. I had wanted to tell her this for so long, before the reapings, but I didn't. Now, we were about to enter the Hunger Games, and one, or maybe both of us wouldn't make it out. Maybe there was no point in telling her. "Josh, what do you need to tell me?" she persisted, squeezing my hand. As I opened my mouth, the District 8 tributes came up behind us, having finished their turn in the opening ceremony. They gave us a long look before they passed us. "If you don't tell me now, we're going to get interrupted, and then you'll never tell me" she said, half-smiling. "How do you know that I'll never tell you?" I asked her. "I know you" she said simply. Still holding her hand, I began to walk towards where other tributes were waiting for the Opening Ceremony to finish and for the Interviews to begin. "I love you Demi" I said quickly. She smiled and kissed my cheek again. "Now, was that so hard?" she said.
Jessie J: Josh Cuthbert from District 7 everyone!
Danny O: First of all, we have to compliment you on your outfit. Were you scared about the axe dropping?
Josh: At first, I was completely terrified! But our stylist attached them to our hands, so there was no way that they could drop.
Jessie J: That's great! So did you like your outfit?
Josh: Yeah, I think the stylist did a really good job. There's only so much you can do with wood, but I think we came off looking really good.
Danny O: You did! So you got a 9 in training, how do you feel about that?
Josh: I think it's an amazing score, the second highest in the Games.
Jessie J: So should the other tributes fear you?
Josh: I don't know. I mean, I'm really happy with the score, but scores are not how you win the Games, it just means that you have a better shot than other people.
Danny O: But do you think that you can win?
Josh: I think I have as good a shot as anyone else. I'm not saying that I'm 100% going to win, but I don't think that I'm at a disadvantage compared to other people.
Jessie J: That's great! How does it feel to know that you and Demi Lovato have the highest combined score of any of the other districts?
Josh: I think it's amazing. It just goes to show that, just because you're in a lower district, doesn't mean that you have less of a chance of winning than the higher districts.
Danny O: Speaking of Demi, am I right to say that you two were friends before the Games?
Josh: Yes. We used to be really close, but we kind of drifted apart.
Jessie J: And have the Games brought you two closer together?
Josh: Yes. We're closer now than we have ever been.
Danny O: And are you two more than friends?
Josh: I love Demi. Completely, utterly and unconditionally. She is one of my best friends, and I'd love her to be more than that.
Jessie J: So is there going to be a romance on the horizon?
Josh: Maybe if we had more time. But soon we're going to be in the arena, and all I want is for one of us to win.
Danny O: So if Demi wins, you'll be happy?
Josh: Of course. As I said before, Demi is one of my best friends, and she's amazing. If either of us win, I'll be happy.
Demi Lovato's p.o.v
"I love you Demi" Josh said quickly. I felt the warmth of his hand in mine and smiled to myself. "Now, was that so hard?" I asked him, trying to sound sarcastic and hide my surprise. I had known that something was going on with Josh, but I never expected it to be something like that. He still held my hand as we went and sat down, waiting for the Opening Ceremony to finish. As we waited for the interviews to start I got more and more nervous. The Games were coming so soon. I had never been in a life-or-death situation and I didn't know how to react to it. "What's wrong?" Josh asked me, sensing my nerves. "I- I don't want one of us to die" I said softly. Josh was silent. "I love you too Josh, and I don't want one of us die" I said, tears threatening to fall from my eyes. Josh put his arm around me. "You can't think like that, you need to be strong. One of us needs to win this thing" he said. I laid my head on his shoulder. "I don't know if I can" I whispered. "Trust me, you can" he said.
A few minutes later and I was watching Josh's interview. I was proud of him, he sounded great without sounding arrogant, as some of the other tributes had. He told the hosts that he loved me. When he said it, I was taken aback, but really happy. I loved him, and if I didn't say it in my interview, no one would ever know. Because after the Games, it would be way too late.
Jessie J: Demi Lovato everyone!
Danny O: Demi, you got a 10 at training. How did you manage that?
Demi: To be honest, I'm not really sure. I just did what came natural to me, and the judges seemed to really like it.
Jessie J: So do you think that you have the best chance to win the Games?
Demi: I don't know about the best chance, but I think I have a good chance. I know what I'm doing.
Danny O: And are you going to form an alliance with Josh?
Demi: Um, to be honest, I've never thought about it, but I suppose so. I think my chances will be a lot higher if I have someone like Josh with me.
Jessie J: And are you interested in a romantic relationship with Josh?
Demi: If we weren't here, then yes, 100%. But as we are here, I think that we'll just take everything as it comes. There's no point planning for the future when we know that one of us won't have a future soon.
Danny O: I can see that this upsets you.
Demi: *Wipes eyes* I think it's impossible to not get upset. I love Josh, and it makes me sick that we're both here, and we both have to face this.
Jessie J: Well, let's change the topic. You volunteered for your sister Madison right?
Demi: I did.
Danny O: Why was this?
Demi: I won't go into it, but Maddie volunteered for all the wrong reasons. She's too young and I couldn't let her go.
Jessie J: So you were protecting her?
Demi: Of course. I'll always protect the people I love. No matter what it takes.
