Louis Tomlinson’s p.o.v

“It’s over” I said to my girlfriend Kristen. “What do you mean?” she asked me, tears beginning to fall from her eyes. I rolled my eyes. This always happened when I dumped the latest fling, she began to cry because she couldn’t imagine her life without me. “I mean what I said, it’s over” I repeated, getting annoyed about having to have the same conversation with every single girl. “Don’t leave me Lou” she said. I scoffed. “Don’t call me Lou, you have no right” I said, getting angry. “I’m sorry, I just...” she trailed off. “You just realised how much of a mess you are?” I asked her. She looked up at me, obviously hurt. “You need to get it into your head, no one is ever going to want to date my leftovers” I said, trying my best to hurt her. She whimpered. “I’m your leftovers?” she asked me. I nodded, smiling horribly. “Never speak to me again!” she shouted, crying, as she ran away from me. “Bye” I called after her.

“Hey mum” I said softly when I got home. “Hey Lou” she whispered, her voice not able to get any louder. She had been sick for weeks. In this district, it wasn’t long before a sickness could get you killed. I was doing my best to take care of her, taking Tesserae and making sure that I had friends in richer parts of the district who could get her the medicine she needed. “How are you?” I asked her. She shrugged and groaned. I could tell that it was too late, she wasn’t getting better. There was medicine at the Capitol or at the more privileged districts that I was sure would be able to save her. But I couldn’t get to it. The only way that I could have even the slightest chance of getting it would be if I could volunteer for the Hunger Games, and win.

“Welcome to the Hunger Games” the host, Liam Payne, said. He was one of the only hosts that didn’t have a Capitol accent. He had won the games many years back, and he was from our district, so he sometimes gave the tributes advice about how to win. Having said that, no one in our district had won since he did. It was usually the people in the first few districts that got all the glory of winning. “The male tribute is... James Arthur” Liam Payne said. I didn’t know the name but I recognised him when he went up. We were the same age and I saw him around school a lot. He was in the geek crowd, I was a popular kid. We never spoke. “Would anyone like to volunteer?” Liam Payne asked. “Me” I said, walking slowly up to the stage, giving the cameras time to see my face clearly. “What’s your name?” the host asked me. “Louis Tomlinson” James Arthur answered for me. “How do you know my name?” I asked him. “Everyone knows your name” he said, starting to walk off of the stage. “Hey, good luck” I said. He looked confused. “Shouldn’t I be saying that to you?” he asked. I shrugged. The only thing I had to live for was my mum. He was stuck here.

Kristen Stewart’s p.o.v

“He called me his leftovers” I said, crying into my mother’s shoulder on the day of the reapings. “Ignore him, he doesn’t deserve you” my father said. I was an only child, but my parents and I were so close, I was very thankful for my family. My father was well respected so I never needed to collect Tesserae and my father was so respected that we very rarely went hungry. Everyone looked out for us. Unless, of course, your name was Louis Tomlinson. He was my ex-boyfriend. He was the coolest guy at our school and had different girlfriends every week. I don’t know why, but I thought that it would be different with me. I wasn’t the usual girl that boys like him go out with. I was pale with dark hair. I could have been beautiful; instead, I looked slightly like a vampire, waiting to suck the blood of the next victim that happened to come by. Fortunately this was not the case. I was just an ordinary girl. So when Louis asked me out I was surprised that he’s even noticed me. I was quiet and nobody really knew who I was. We went out for longer than anyone that he’d ever dated so I thought that we were the real deal. Then it all went wrong.

“You don’t know anything about it!” He shouted at me. “I’m sorry” I said softly. “I don’t need anything from you” he said, a bit quieter but just as angry. “I just want to help. Your mum is really sick” I said to him. I had been to visit his mum when he was out the day before. She was one of the sickest people that I had seen in the district and I asked my father straight away if we could help. He said that we could. But when I told Louis he completely exploded. “You went behind my back!” he shouted. “I’m sorry” I said again. Then I waited for him to cool down. “It’s over” he said. “What do you mean?” I asked him, tears beginning to fall from my eyes. I went over the events in my head again and again since the day it happened. He had said some hurtful things, and I didn’t think I could ever forgive him for that.

Our host was called Liam Payne. Every girl in our district completely fancied him and I was no exception. He was the last person from our district to have won, so everyone looked up to him. He called James Arthur as the tribute. This saddened me. James and I were sometimes put together for group activities as we were both quiet. He was good company. “Me” I heard when Liam Payne asked for volunteers. I turned and saw Louis making his way onto the stage. My mouth fell open and my brain wasn’t connecting to let me shut it. I didn’t know why he was doing this, his mother needed him. “The female tribute is... Kristen Stewart” Liam Payne said. I saw Louis’ mouth replicate mine, dropping open. I walked onto the stage.  “I’m sorry” Louis whispered to me as Liam Payne said our names again. “Forget it ever happened” I said softly, refusing to let him and the cameras see the tears that were threatening to escape from the corners of my eyes.
