They had to wait 60 seconds. If they stepped off their metal circles before the minute was up, the landmines will blow them up. They are all the same distance away from the Cornucopia, which has a variety of things that can help them, such as food, water, medicine and weapons. There are also a number of backpacks scattered around, but with these, you couldn't guarantee what was in them. Some people believed that the best backpacks were placed in front of the career tributes, but this had never been proven.

All of the tributes knew about the 60 second rule, but Aston Merrygold didn't know how it worked. Did you wait for a sound, or did you go when you thought the 60 seconds were up? His thought process was that, if he could guess the 60 seconds accurately, he could go before the other tributes and get a good backpack. The advantage of him being skinny was that he was fast. And he could have a time advantage. This was a good plan. So when he thought the 60 seconds were up, he stepped off the metal circle. And within seconds, he was blown to smithereens. Rochelle Humes, the other tribute from his district, screamed. It was all over in about 20 seconds. He was eliminated. The other tributes had a mix of responses. The ruthless ones were pleased, one less person that they would have to kill later on. Some of the other ones were sad. He would have only had to wait until the gong sounded and he would have been fine. No one could understand why he did it. Most of them assumed that he wanted to die. Either way, they had more important things to focus on now.

Then, the gong sounded.

Immediately there was a scramble for the best things. It's generally known that the first 60 seconds after the gong sounds are the more crucial, and the time when the most people get killed at once. Nathan Sykes is the first person to reach a backpack. As he grabs it, he hears someone running after him and instinctively grabs a knife from the ground and plunges it into the person. It is a girl that he doesn't recognise. He immediately runs off in the opposite direction, meeting up with his allie, Taylor Lautner, leaving the body of Carly Rae Jepson behind, in his wake, with the knife still sticking out of her chest.

Carrie Fletcher notices that a lot of the good things have already been taken. She had been out of sight, not wanting to get killed in, what was known as, the bloodbath. She was surprised to see that only one person had been killed. The career tributes seemed more occupied with getting to shelter and everyone else just wanted to get the best stuff. Looking closer, Carrie noticed the knife that was still sticking out of Carly Rae. Making sure that no-one saw her, she ran to the body and grabbed the knife. Holding it in one hand, she then looked around for an unoccupied backpack. She spotted one behind a bush and ran for it. Then she noticed that another tribute already had his hand on it. She used her knife to stab his hand and grab the pack. He screamed out in pain and she used the opportunity to kick him. She them plunged her knife into his chest, aiming for his heart. She held it there until the light went out in his eyes and he was dead. She had made her first kill. She had killed Danny Jones.

Perrie Edwards heard the scream and momentarily looked back to see her fellow tribute, Danny Jones, being killed. She only had a second before continuing to run. She instantly regretted how hostile she had been towards him. He had been trying to help her and now he was dead. He volunteered because he thought he owed it to his cousin. She wondered whether or not his cousin was happy. Now that Danny was dead.

Most of the other tributes had already left the Cornucopia. Niall Horan held onto Miley Cyrus' hand as she held on to what they had collected. He had done a good job so far, keeping both of them safe. He knew that he would have to do a lot to stop them from being killed in the future, but for now, he knew what he had to do. Get somewhere, hidden and out of the view of the other tributes, and stay there until either: They run out of food, they run out of water, or someone found them. And he didn't know which one was more likely to come first.

Demi Lovato and Josh Cuthbert found each other quickly. Both had a backpack and Demi had managed to pick up some extra water to drink while Josh had picked up a bow and arrow. He couldn't use it, but he knew that Demi could. When they found each other, they instantly held hands and ran like their lives depended on it. As they got away from the Cornucopia, they heard the cannons. The cannons sounded once for every tribute that had been killed, then, at the end of the night, the faces of the dead/eliminated tributes would flash in the sky, letting everyone know who has gone. Demi and Josh didn't care so much about that, they still had each other.

Carrie had been running for ages. As she cleared away from the Cornucopia, the cannons began. No one else was there and they wanted to clear out the bodies. She tried to feel sad for the boy that she had killed, but all she could think about were the mistakes that she made. Why didn't she allie with someone? Not a career tribute, but maybe someone who could fight, but other people overlooked. If she was jumped now, she would be killed, there was no doubt about that. But she needed to stop. She had been running for too long now. She sat down at the base of a tree, too tired to climb up it but not tired enough to leave herself unprotected. As she sat, she heard a rustling behind her. She hoped that it was just an animal, an animal that would leave her alone. But as she looked up, she found that she was staring right into the eyes of a tribute. And they looked ready to kill her...

Eliminated tributes: Aston Merrygold, Carly Rae Jepson, Danny Jones.
