Everyone is dead. Pookie, Seia, Nixon, Nyon. How am I going to be able to go back to that dreadful place. It will give us shelter for a couple days then we might set out again. Here we go. I'm going to be the worst Alpha ever!
One day as an Alpha and I'm already starting to doubt myself. How was my stepfather able to be such a good Alpha? I don't know what to do!!!!
"Miyla you alright?" I hear Shurno's comfortable voice ask. He trots so we are right next to eachother. His dark hazel eyes straw into my heart.
"Uh. Yeah I'm fine." I say in a quiet not assuring voice.
I look back to check on Halo and Kayla. They are still there. Even though Halo is perfectly fine from the little incident yesterday, Kayla keeps checking on him. Kayla looks up at me and give me a bright assuring smile. She thinks I will be a great Alpha.
I look to my left where Shurno is still staring at me. I wish I could bring myseft to open up to him, but I'm scared he will leave or avoid me. I could not run this fail of a back without him.
I look to my right where Tala is leaning against me for support. I guess she got hurt again from the bullets. Even though it has been awhile, it affects how she walks. She looks up at me in concern. I show a slight smile on my face. It disappears quickly though.
"Okay why don't we take a rest. We are about 10 miles away." I say coming to a slow walk and looking Kayla. She slows down and makes sure that Halo is comfortable. She walks up to me, but freezes.
"Um..." She says very nervous. "We should find some food." She says trying not to sound like she is hungry.
"Ya uh-huh. Um.. Shurno do you wanna go find some food for us, please?" I say. I know that she was never able to be taught how to hunt, and I wasn't either.
Without another word Shurno trots off to find food. We wait hopeing that he will come with something big. The four of us sit in silence. Well Tala was leaning her whole body weight against me, Halo was laying down at Kayla's paws, and Kayla and I were sitting. Looking around and keeping alert for anything.
I don't know how long it was, but Shurno finally came back. And guess what he caught?!
He caught a 2 beavers and a raccoon! The raccoon isn't that bad because it is really stringy, but the beaver is amazing. We all love the beaver most of all. I am really surprised that they all get along so well together.
I look up while everyone is just finishing up eating. I can't help but to slip a smile on my face. My heart begins to beat faster as they all finish.
"Okay is everyone ready?" I ask about 5 minutes after we are done eating. Kayla looks ready, Halo just looks exhausted, Tala looks actually perfect, and Shurno will do whatever I do soooo, I guess they are ready.
"Okay we are not that far now." I say. I have that ring in my voice hopeing they will pick up the encouragement I just tried to give them. Only Kayla got my message and brought Halo to his paws.
Shurno bounded slowly towards me and licked my face in affection. He has been very clingy lately. I guess that's what happens when your mate is taken by new, dangerous, ugly humans in white coats.
"I can walk on my own." Says Tala. I let her ribs push off of mine as she almost falls down. She catches herself at the last second and smiles with pride and victory. She starts to prance on then waits for the rest of the failure pack.
"We should get a move on. We could make it there by midday." I say picking up my pace from a walk to a run. Shurno and Tala instantly rush after me as do Halo and Kayla.
~Later~
We finally made it to the camp. It brings memories. Good and bad. Blood and death fill my nose and senses. Wolves bodies lay all over the place.
Kayla and Halo look around at the corpses. Their eyes widen with fear. They look all over the territory backing away. Slowly. Edging their way back to the safety of the trees.
I close my eyes, hopeing that Halo and Kayla won't ask. Shurno looks at me in concern. His facial expression gives me a look saying, 'We can go back.'
I shake my head and he directs his attention somewhere else. Meanwhile Halo and Kayla are still backing away in fear. Tala is trying to calm them down, but they are still caught up with the horrifying smell and images.
Blood is splattered on the trees, grass, dens and anywhere else you can think of. Bodies lay scattered and some on top of eachother. Some are next to the humans they killed and some are laying there with a knife of bullet stuck in them.
"Come on." Says Shurno as he walks towards the den that Nixon was kept in. I hesitate, but once I see Tala follow Shurno, I make up my mind. I turn my head towards Halo and Kayla as I walk closer to the den. Whatever Tala said to them seemed to calm them down a little bit.
Tala and Shurno stop at the doorway and let me in. They begin to follow me.
"Go wait outside with Halo and Kayla. Make sure they calm down." I order as I turn my head ever so slightly to Tala. She gives a short, violent nod and leaves. I redirected my attention to Shurno who is leaning against the doorway in a teenager way.
"You go too." I say to him as I turn my head back to the front. Nixon's corpse lay in the shadows, almost not visible.
Shurno bows his head and leaves also. His tail is straight and angled toward the ground.
I wait a couple minutes to make sure they aren't still there. I walk slowly up to his lifeless body. He is not covered in flies and worms aren't digging through his eyesballs which perks my curiosity.
"Hey, Nixon," I say in a soft voice. "I'm finally happy and free from Nyon, all thanks to you." I continue. I lay down right next to him just like I did before the humans came. His dark fur tickles my nose as I rest my head on his bony stomach. His ribs look like they are going to pop out of his body.
"Tala is alright too. The wound that Nyon gave her is almost healed. I'm even the Alpha now." I say trying to start a conversation. Hopeing that maybe he will reply. Hopeing that he will jump up and be alive again.
"Why-" I start, but begin to choke up. "Why do you have to be dead!!" I start to wail. I dig my muzzle into his side hopeing his chest will rise and he will get up.
I slowly but swiftly walk out of the den. I stay close to the wall so the pack doesn't see me. I walk up a small hill. Near the top I stop.
"A full moon." I mutter under my breath. I raise my muzzle and howl. It isn't a howl you would want to hear or usually hear. It is a howl of mourning and depression.
I lower my muzzle and stare at the green grass below me.
"It's okay princess." Says a voice to my right. My eyes open. "At least one of us survived." He says stepping more into the light.
My head slowly turns in horror. He's back.
