Minutes turn into hours, hours turn into days, days turn into weeks. I have been in this cage for who knows how long. I have been tested on. Needles have been jabbed into almost every part of my body. The grubby humans only give us 2 meals and about 1 and 1/2 bowls of water a day.
New scents come and old scents go. Athena, the old wolf across from me, is growing weaker by the day. The humans have stopped doing tests on her and are waiting for her to die. The old wolf I once met when I first came has all but disappeared. She barely sleeps, never eats, and she won't talk to me. She is beginning to get very grumpy. The fur around her face is all white.
As Athena grew up to be a grumpy, old witch, I made some new friends. A kind gentleman named Halo and a shy wolf named Kayla.
More needles and drugs. The food has some kind of weird flavoring. It makes us drop as if we are dead. Some of us have died from them. The water is foggy and very unnatural. Sometimes it's even greenish. Or it's just my mind. I swear I've been growing mad in here.
Today marks day 163. I think about Shurno every day. About his fur, his scent, his face. My legs are weak and my head swirls. The drugs and needles they give me has driven me insane. Sometimes I swear I see him.
Day: 164
I had 3 tests today and I can't stop thinking about that fimilar smell. The drugs they gave me today weren't that bad. I did get to bite 2 fingers off a lousy human though. He freaked. He was screaming his head off like he was about to die. I had my fun until they zapped me with their lightning stick. It hurts and it makes me fall unconscious. The rest of the wolves had their laugh. Most snickering at the human, but some at me for getting what they think I deserved.Day: I don't even know.
Athena didn't come back to her cage today. She left and I never smelled her come out of The Room. Or at least that's what we call it. Wolves go in, but most never come out. Sadly I've been in The Room. It was dreadful. Well at least that is over.Day: Eh, who counts anymore?
A new wolf was brought into Athena's cage today. Only a little pup. Reminds me of when I first came. Ears down, shivering with fear, whimpering for your loved ones to come save you. I never stopped hoping that one day Shurno or maybe even Nixon would get me out. Impossible, right? Well even if Nixon is never coming back, I still have Shurno.Day: Okay, I have to stop thinking like this.
Today Kayla and I whispered about our old packs. We had fun. Then Halo joined in. With them I feel happy. I feel as if the cold, metal bars just disappeared and we were free. Of course the blood and the stench of death come back to my senses.A young, handsome, brown wolf came in. He put up a huge fight. He killed one of the humans who was holding a Lightning stick. Of course not to brag, but I killed 2 😏.
He was put in the cage to the right of me. He smelled of pine and blood. Beautiful outside world. It just reminds everyone that we are in here not out there.
"Aren't you a sight for sore eyes." He says admiring my light, golden coat. His dark brown eyes shoot though the air into my eyes. All the males who once tried to win me bark words of dirty actions.
"Why thank you." I say lifting my head off my sharp feet and nails and place my head in the opposite direction of his face. I feel his gaze trailing up and down my body. I smell the air and open my eyes in fear.
'The scent, I remember!'
I jump up and back up farthest away from him. Although there are bars separating us, that does not mean that will keep the nasty memories and his horrible smell away.
"You-You-" anger fills within my heart. "You didn't accept Tala's request to come and help me!" A cold tear trickles down my face. My teeth show more than they ever have before. My growl is louder than the time Nyon hurt Tala. My heart is filled with hatred and agony more than ever before.
"Raku! I will kill you, You son-of-a-bitch!" I lunge and grab a chunk of his chest. I rip out a big hunk of flesh.
It bleeds all over, but no whimpering comes from his mouth. No cry or wail. No yowl in defeat. He stands with a bright smile upon his face and wide eyes as if someone gave him a roasted pig only for him. His eyebrows are high, almost hidden by his shaggy face hair.
"She almost died because of you!!" I yell and lunge again. I get a bigger hunk of flesh, but he doesn't even flinch.
"Of course she would not have gone after you if you had never ran away." He says as if he is trying to make a point. He looks down at his bleeding chest and chuckles.
"Have you ever been at war Miyla? Didn't think so." He pauses and steps a few paces closer to the bars. "Let me tell you something. In order to win a war you have to loose." He looks satisfied that he has been in a war and is sharing this information.
"I had to loose you for the goodness of the pack. You were weak and-" I cut him off.
"You treated me like shit! I would not have ran away if you guys treated me with some respect! I was the Alpha's daughter." I spit in his face. Halo and Kayla perk up at this fact. His blood sits on my tongue and teeth.
"There is a word in there that intrigued me. 'Was.' You are correct. You were the Alpha's daughter. It's because you were the Alpha's daughter we treated you like that. Special treatment all the time." He says looking at me as if I was a puppy still learning everything. "First pick at meals, first drink of water, and my favorite, first pick at mates." He chuckles. "You see Miyla. You don't know what it's like to be treated like a lowly rat. Do you?!" He says growling back at me.
"Yes I do!" I say remembering Nixon and Nyon. Remembering Pookie and Seia. "To be treated like dirt. Like a ghost or an object that is useless! I know what it feels like don't go shoving that around in people's faces. Just remember that there are much worse lives than we got ourselves you greedy jack-ass!"
We growl at eachother and snap harsh things.
"Alright you two let's break it up." Says a human outside out cages with a lightning stick. He is not like the others who jab us with it at first sight. He is giving us a chance.
I slowly stop growling and release a hunk of Raku's flesh from my mouth. It falls to the floor with a loud thump. I raise my head to find all the eyes of wolves around us are on me. Not Raku, but me.
It seems that I am now popular.
