The air pinches at your skin, leaving it itchy and cold, and your board bumps slowly across the grooves and crevices of the sidewalk. You hear quiet cheers around the corner, but the slight buzzing that fills your ears makes your movements stop.
Reki calls out your name the minute he hears your board pop, Langa chasing after him and following his lead when he throws his arms around you.
"Is everything okay?" Langa asks, taking note of your quiet nature. "Y/n?"
Reki grabs at your face when you don't respond, trying to follow your line of sight. "Sorry," you blurt out, shifting your focus to them. "I just thought I heard something."
"Probably just a bug," Reki says, looking at Langa, he only nods. "Nothing to worry about, Y/n." He assures, pinching your cheek.
Right. You thought. It's nothing. "Why'd you call?" You asked, looking at both of them. "Um- actually I think I know why now."
Reki grins, wide and bright, tossing an arm over yours and Langa's shoulder. "Our trio's back!" He exclaimed, his smile growing even wider somehow.
Reki yells out his departure when you three get to the crossroad, you and Langa stand near the sign and walk away only after he's out of sight.
"So, Reki told me about you two," Langa says, bumping your arm lightly. "I'm glad you two figured things out."
The doubt from earlier, blinded by the hope that filled your heart, floods back into your mind like a broken dam. "He told you about what exactly?"
Langa raises a brow, "That you two are— oh." Panic flows through you when he stops his sentence. "Sorry, I might've read things wrong."
Read things wrong?
"I'll see you later," you mutter, "Tomorrow, I mean— um maybe." You hurriedly say, speed walking further away from him. You ignore his calls.
You hoped tomorrow would be better.

"What's going on?" You asked the moment you walked through the door of dope sketch. Reki steps back warily when you look at him, shrinking in on himself when you say his name. "Come on," you laugh nervously, clutching your bag strap. "Just tell me."
Oka excuses himself, Reki takes you to the back room. "Um," he hesitated when he reached for your hand, holding it near his body. "I've been chosen to act as Shadow's replacement in the tournament."
"You accepted it didn't you?" You ask, cursing yourself when you feel tears well in your eyes. "Reki?" His lack of words answers your question.
He keeps his head down.
"I hate fighting with you, Reki." You whispered, shaking your entwined hands. "I can't keep doing this back and forth thing where I think you're the most amazing person, to thinking you're the most reckless idiot in the world."
