I couldn't see much through the thick ice but I saw her eyes. The brown was sparkling as always and they were full of life and not cold or empty like Abby's. From that moment I knew I had made the right choice. The person behind the ice was the real Harper. I pulled the knife out of my belt and started sawing. Carefully I cut ice layer by layer and was able to free her more and more. Harper wanted to say something, but I interrupted her. I knew that talking only affected the body even more.
She knelt in the corner and closed her eyes. No, Harper couldn't give up now that we were so close to the goal. I sawed as fast as I could, and then finally, the ice broke. Now I ran to Harper and helped her out of the cold. Exhausted, she fell to the ground and I grabbed her hand. First, I put my knife back and then I hugged her to give away some of my warmth. She was weak and breathing hard but she was alive, that's all that matters. As she lay safely on the ground, I screamed for help. I was as angry as I had never been before. If they wanted to make me do something, they should do it without hurting other innocent people.
Suddenly, I heard a key in the lock turn and someone opened the door. I'd love to have killed that person there, but I was too busy getting help for Harper. Quickly two people rushed into the room and picked up Harper: I wanted to protest but the luminous being stopped me from doing so. She took my hand and led me away. At first, I resisted strongly but then I understood that it was hopeless. She wouldn't let go of me. Again, she brought me to the stupid throne room. What was this all about?
As if she had read my thoughts, she took her place on the throne and turned to me. " Donut worry, Tara, Harper's alright. Nothing is going to happen to her. She'll be taken care of by us and then she will be sent back to Earth. Congratulations, you passed the test, unlike your sister. Raven was right. Humanity can actually change. Now go to the place, where you arrived, a portal will take you back to the City of Light. Becca's here with us. She and Harper will be sent straight to Earth. " I bowed one last time before the light creature disappeared and then started my way outside. I couldn't believe it. I had just passed the final test and saved mankind. After some minutes, I arrived at the said place in the Ice. The old blue light was waiting for me. Without fear and without any hesitation, I ran into it and felt warmth rise in me again. I couldn't wait to get out of the ice and the snow.
Before I knew it, the portal was spitting me out again in Allie's office. Everything looked exactly the same as before I jumped into the land of ice. Even Allie's water glass was still on the table. I had to leave her behind and that hurt me. She stood up for me and wanted to help right from the start. She had been a good AI.
I knew there was no time to grieve over her anymore, as I had once learned from Indra. After the war, there was still time to mourn the loss. So I grabbed Allie's keys and ran out of the office. I closed the door behind me. May we meet again.
As soon as I got down there, I saw a sight that burned into my brain. The streets were filled with lifeless bodies and blood. War was such a cruel thing. I also discovered some Grounders and Ski people among the dead. For those, I took a moment and knelt down. " Yu gonplei ste Odon."
It hurt to see all those dead bodies lying there. They had all fought. Everyone for their own reasons. I hated war so much.
In the distance, I heard gunshots and knew I had to get to the others quickly so I stood up and ran as fast as I could towards the city centre. It was really surprising that I didn't get lost there. Then I arrived and a picture of destruction presented itself to me. And in the middle of this chaos my friends were standing.
