"Casey! Honey! Come look at this!" My mother calls from the kitchen.
"What? I am supposed to leave in a minute!"
"Just look at this!" She points.
A segment on Soda Pop is playing on the local news. The news lady is droning on and on about new developments on the story and statistics about kids who cheat and stuff.
I watch for a minute to satisfy my mother, and turn around to walk out of the room when a name catches my eye. His name.
"Officials say a student at the school, who most students know as Soda Pop, true identity was revealed today. Senior, Marcus Bradley, was caught with some of the cans."
"See, I'm glad you two broke up. You were together for years. And he never even mentioned it. This is why I tell you to watch who you talk to and never online date," my mom lectures.
"Yeah, but it's all okay now because we are over. See you later mom," I call, walking out the front door.
I hastily walk to my car, already 5 minutes late. I quickly pull out of our circular driveway, and down the road. I pull up to Brett's fraternity a half hour later with a bag of takeout, and a guy I have never met answers the door.
"Hell-o Georgous," He says, smirking.
"Ew, bro. That's my sister," Brett says, opening the door a but wider and pulling me inside. He winks at me.
"Everyone, I would like you to meet my sister, Casey."
I give a small half wave to the 12 or so guys lounging around, studying, or listening to music.
I am greeted with about 12 or so, 'Hi Casey's'.
Before I know it, Brett has his arm around my waist. I look at him seductively, and slowly lean in, teasing him just a bit.
When our lips actually touch, a new chemistry appears. It makes my skin tingly, and all of my senses alert.
A few guys whistle, and one even goes as far as breaking our kiss up.
"You guys need to cut it out, you're siblings! Isn't that, like, incest or something?" He says, pushing Brett out of the way.
"Yo, dude it was a joke, this is really my um friend Casey," Brett says, and i can't help but feel a little punch in my gut. I mean, we haven't had a chance to discuss our relationship.
"It's okay Brett, you can say girlfriend. Dude, but she is like way out of your league," A guy laughs.
Oddly, I'm a little insulted.
"Wow, thanks guys. I actually think Brett is way hotter than all of you guys put together. How many of you here actually even have girlfriends?" I ask, and no one says a word.
Cricket. Cricket. Cricket.
"That's what I thought," I smirk. "Now who wants a taco?"
....................
Brett introduces me to his replacement for a few days, and then we go up to his room and eat the food I brought.
I want to bring up what just happened, but don't want to make a good time suddenly extremely awkward, but I have to know.
Are we a thing now? Are we not a thing? How am I supposed to know unless I ask?
"Um, Brett?" I ask awkwardly.
"That's my name," He winks.
"Ha, yeah, good one," I wince, turning away from him to gather the courage to say the words.
"Did you actually need something?" He asks, taking a bite of taco.
"Yeah, um... I just-"
"Spit it out," He frowns.
"Are we a thing? Or like-" I stop midsentence.
"Casey." He smiles taking my hand in his, "I don't want to push you. You just broke up with your boyfriend not to long ago. I don't want to be the rebound guy. I want you when you are ready. I don't want to put you in a weird position. I will wait for you, but you also have to make up your own mind."
"No- I mean, yes. I want you. More than anything I have ever wanted. I am over Marcus. I- I have been over him. For awhile, I think. I was out of it a long time ago. And I want to be with you," I breathe.
"Okay," He says.
"Alright," I smile.
