- The Hufflepuff Princess -

Chapter 7

The next morning Elyse woke up well rested. She sat in her bed to see Patches laying at the end of her bed, she also saw that Rosalie and Katie were dressed, sitting on the foot of the bed, quietly chatting.

"Good Morning Elyse." Rosalie and Katie said.

Elyse got up and get dressed. She saw her robes laying on top of her trunk and got dressed. Elyse, Rosalie, and Katie went down to the Great Hall and quickly ate some toast. Once they were all finished they went to Professor Sprout's office to get their schedules. Elyse saw that she had only had Charms and Herbology with Rosalie and Katie. Her first class of the day was Potions with Professor Snape in the dungeons. Yay. She loved Potions.

Elyse parted ways with her friends and walked down to the dungeons. She saw Daphne and caught up with her. They walked to Potions together.

"You should have been a Slytherin. You would look so good in green." Complained Daphne.

"I wonder why I wasn't put in Slytherin since I was with you on the train." Elyse said.

"It doesn't work that way Mudblood!" Said a certain blond haired boy.

"What's a Mudblood?" Asked Elyse.

"No wonder you were put in Hufflepuff, a Mudblood is someone who was born to non-magical parents. Obviously." Said Draco.

Daphne and Elyse walked into the potions classroom. Elyse was the only Hufflepuff in the class, so she decided to follow Daphne, who sat down next to Draco. Across from her she saw Hermione, Harry and Ron. Ron and Harry seamed to be goofing off while Hermione was reading a book. Ron caught Elyse looking at them so he waved.

"Hi." Elyse said.

"Elyse!" Daphne said as she pulled her arm. "Don't talk to them."

"Why?" Elyse asked.

Then a man with dark black hair and a black robe entered the classroom. "Silence." 

Then he started the lesson. It was quite boring really. Elyse had done this in her forth year. When Professor Snape, Elyse learned, walked around the room to check their potions, he was surprised by Elyse's potion.

"Surprisingly very well done Ms. Colston. I must say, knowing your parents, I did not expect much from you. 10 points to Hufflepuff" Snape said.

Elyse caught the fact that he said that he knew her parents. How? Daphne looked jealous that Snape complimented Elyse's potion instead of hers.

When class ended Elyse, taking Katie and Rosalie's advice and walked up to Ron.

"I don't think I was able to introduce myself. I'm Elyse Colston."

"I know who you are, you're-" Ron started

"Ronald! Shut it!" Hermione interrupted.

"Hello Elyse. I'm Hermione. What Ron means is that he remembers your name from the Sorting Ceremony." Said Hermione.

They talked for a bit and Harry even joined in. He didn't say much because Hermione did all the talking.

Then Elyse left and walked out of the classroom. She was confused. Daphne told her to stay away from Harry, Hermione, and Ron because they got in trouble a lot, but then on the other hand Rosalie and Katie told her to make friends with them. They also told her to stay away from Draco. Draco seamed nice enough though. Yes he did tease her a bit, but don't all boys do that?

Elyse was walking to the Great Hall to go to lunch when she felt a hand wrap around her arm and  the hand pulled her into an alcove.

"Hey Elyse." Elyse turned around to see Draco standing there. "I just wanted to let you know that I'm sorry for calling you a Mudblood." 

"You are?" Asked Elyse.

"Of course. I shouldn't have said it. I'm sorry." Draco said. It sounded like he was being too nice.

"That's Okay Draco. I accept your apology." Elyse said purposely falling into his trap.

"Okay good. Well then, now that we are good would you mind telling me about Wormtail and what you heard or saw on the train?" Draco asked, a smile creeping on his face.

There is was. "I told you all I know Draco. I don't know who this Wormtail person is. All I know is that everything was black and I heard someone telling Wormtail to kill a lady. I don't know who He- Who- Must- Not- Be- Named is and I don't know how you know about him." Elyse said.

Draco stared Elyse in the eyes. "Don't mention what you heard to anyone. People with think you've gone mad." With that Draco left, leaving Elyse standing alone in the alcove, thoughts filling her head.

Elyse decided to skip lunch and she went to her dorm instead. She sat on her bed and all of the annoying intrusive thoughts filled her head.

Draco is right. If you tell someone people will think you're mad. Maybe you are mad. Maybe you've imagined it. Your boyfriend didn't even stay with you. Maybe he thinks you've gone mad. You've diffidently gone mad, people are saying they know who you are and how they know your parents. You're mad! You're mad! Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap.

Elyse shook her head and heard the tapping. She looked around the room to try and locate the noise but she couldn't find it. Then she looked behind her and saw an owl tapping its beak on the window. Elyse reached behind her and flipped the latch and pushed open the window and the owl flew inside and landed on her trunk. The owl was all black with one splotch of white on its beak. Elyse saw that the owl had a letter in its beak so she reached to take it out but the owl would not let her. Elyse saw that her name was on envelope.

"Hey! Give that to me! It has my name on it." Elyse said as she reached for the letter again. "It has my name on it." Elyse said again, and if by command the owl dropped the letter and flew out the window and out of sight. Elyse closed the window and turned her attention to the letter. She reached for it and noticed that this letter was in a silver envelope. Her name was written on the front and this time it was in a golden ink color.

Elyse opened the letter and read it.

Elyse,

Rainy days are your favorite. Am I right? You like to stay inside and read a book. I like to do the same. I know you are now at Hogwarts. Again, I'm sorry I can't tell you who I am or how I know so much about you, but I know for certain that you will know me at  the end of the second term, when school ends. I won't be able to tell you much any letters after this in case it gets taken by someone else. Befriend those who are hard to befriend.

Elyse read the letter a few times to make sure she read that right. How did "L" know that she was at Hogwarts? How did "L" know that rainy days were her favorite? What did "L" mean by befriend those who are hard to befriend?

Elyse heard the bell ring, meaning it was time for afternoon classes. Elyse quickly hid the letter in her trunk and left to go to her next class.
