You walked along the edge of the wall. The pastel colours of the sunset painted the sky in beautiful shades that stretched right down to the horizon. It was a beautiful sight to see. Light. Something that brought you terrible memories. Then again, so did the dark. Only, in the dark, you could use your magic to run away. Your eyes flickered to the fleeting sun, everything with light fleets away. Faster than you would have liked to. It... hurt. Seeing something that he could be described as- or like. If only that sun had never left the sky.

Your tore your eyes from the sight, focusing on starring into the distance across the ground, watching for the sight of any enemies. Diamond had gone pretty quiet since the incident with Spade two years ago, however there were waves every now and then that rippled the sound surface. That's why you always had to be prepared. To fight, to kill. It was the only was to survive. It was the only way to avoid the inevitable feeling of pain that always follows you no matter where you turn.

Ahead, you could see the excitable member of the Golden Dawn you shared your shift with. "(Y/N)! Over here!" He waved; his arm stretched right into the air as the other one cupped half off his mouth to increase the volume of his shout. With a sigh, you approached him. He smiled happily, a giddy jump in his steps as he skipped towards you. He slung an arm around your shoulder, smiling at you as he usually did for everyone. "I didn't see you at dinner with everyone else! Where were you?" He questioned. "That's none of your business." "I can't help but be worried for my comrades. We're all Magic Knights after all" he stated, exaggerating with his arms as usual. You flicked his arm off of your shoulder, "get back to work."

"Hey now," he slung his arm back over you again. "I brought you something." You ignored his comment, trying to walk off. He held a bag of cookies in front of you. You looked down at them with a look of annoyance mixed with confusion that barely shone through your dead eyes. "I bought them from a couple of blocks down for you. That way you'd actually have something to eat!" He cheered. You went to walk off, but he stopped you again. "I'm not letting you go until you take them..." "Fine." You snatched the bag and shoved it into the pockets of your cloak.

"And here..." he held out a piece of folded paper. You took it in your hands, not yet unfolding it. "It's your copy of the schedule." "I see." You now unfolded the paper out, looking down at the names listed.

You let out a grunt of annoyance seeing Nacht's name beside your own. Three shifts you'd be trapped working side-by-side with him. Did he chose those shifts? The thought made your blood boil, the only give-away being the way your murderous eyes narrowed at his name on the paper. How dare he. He had some balls to write his name beside your own. Yes, you worked with him for three years, but no you didn't have to anymore, so you weren't going to. The thought made you want to throw yourself over the wall you currently defended. That man- you hated him.

"So, I guess I'll be seeing more of you, (Y/N)" he grinned at you happily. "..." You didn't reply to his happy comment, just turning your back and walking along the wall again, patrolling the ground bellow and the skies at eye-level. You folded the paper and shoved it back into your pocket alongside the cookies. You didn't want to deal with that right now, you had hours left on your shits, and only three hours until you'd have to deal with him. Your head pounded, 'how annoying.'
