You lay facing the ceiling on the comfort of your puffy mattress; Thank you, Captain. Your mind wasn't blank, but you wished it was. You were burned by the memories you were forced to relive with no end in sight. You tried to cover your ears with your pillow, but the screams wouldn't leave your ears. You had squeezed your eyes shut because everywhere you looked put you back in that stone cell. However, that sickening smirk was there every time you closed your eyes. There was a hell waiting for you at every corner. You just wanted it to go away. You just wanted it to stop. You wanted this Hell to find someone else.
'Please, please, please. Go away. Just go away.' Out of all of your internal pleads, only one pushed out in a rasp, "please..." It was breaking you slowly, you just refused to believe it. Why you? What did you do to deserve being trapped in this inescapable pain? Nothing you ever could have done would lead to this. They wouldn't leave you- they wouldn't just go away. You heart ached and your lungs felt as through they were being squeezed dry. All your scars felt like fresh wounds once again. What hurt most was the pain on your neck and hands; tearing at your skin.
There was a knock at your door, breaking you from your overwhelming thoughts. You could just ignore it; pretend you weren't there- "Vice-Captain?" You could hear Zenon's soft voice. "Vice-Captain, I just wanted to let you know that I'm going to check up on the Black Bulls. Captain Vangeance requested it. I figured you wouldn't want to come. I just wanted to tell you where I would be if you needed anything..." He went silent for a moment. You sat up off your bed, all of your horrifying thoughts had subsided for the moment. "... I hope you're okay, sir. I really do..." Of course. It was Zenon- he was sentimental. You stood up and made your way over to the door, opening it to Zenon's surprise, which was evident on his face. "You really think you're going on your own when devils are roaming about? Fool. With the way you react you'll end up dead." Your words probably should have hurt him, but they had the opposite effect.
His eyes lit up; you were going to accompany him. The way he always seemed to light up was very annoying. "Give me five minutes." You ordered flatly. "Okay!" He beamed. You closed the door despite him still standing there. He was the opposite of you. You could remember when he was the same as you- a lot had changed since then. You combed your hair out and fastened your grimoire pouch to your belt. Sliding your grimoire into its pouch; clipping it shut. After, you pulled your cloak on. You checked your gloves before placing your hand back on the handle of the door. You opened the door again and left your room, locking it behind you. Zenon leaned against the wall beside your room with a smile on his face. You gave him an annoyed look, "let's go." "Right!"
The ride to the Black Bulls was travelled in silence; Zenon realised you were in no mood to talk. You were never really in a mood to talk; however, something was especially off today. He wasn't going to ask questions; he knew it would only anger you, or possibly upset you even more, and that wasn't his intention. He struggled to understand you, even to this day. He opened up to you that day, and that day alone was probably the only time he'd ever seen you with an expression other than cold since you'd both come back form Spade. Even so, you were who you were, and he was simply happy to be around. You'd become someone quite important to him.
You landed at the front of their base as the sun set. You didn't want to be here. This place was filled with unrighteous people, people who lie, people who were selfish. These were the people you hated. Because they were the exact opposite of everything he stood for. You bit your tongue as Zenon knocked on the door to the base. "You don't have to enjoy yourself. But maybe this'll be a chance for you to loosen up" Zenon gave you a smile right before the door was answered. "Welcome back, Zenon! Don't mind the usual chaos." Finral answered the door. "I'd never mind it. It's the feeling of home." Zenon replied. Finral laughed as he opened the door wider. You followed after Zenon, making Finral stare in shock, "(Y-Y/N)! I-I didn't expect to see you here!" You ignored him as usual; you had no interest in socialising with hooligans like these.
"Hey you two~!" Vanessa slurred as she swung an open bottle of wine around; Zenon replied, "hello Vanessa." You observed the room, nothing had changed. "You're here! I didn't expect to see you (Y/N)!" Asta beamed lifting his head while he continued his push-ups; Zenon smiled at him, "what are you up to now, Asta?" "One-thousand nine-hundred and seventy-six" "Would you like some noms!?" Charmy inquired with a mouthful of food, holding up muffins to you and Zenon; "yes please, Charmy." Charmy handed Zenon a muffin immediately. Gauche sat in the corner carving at one of his Marie sculptures. "W-Welcome back guys..." Grey was hiding behind where Gauche sat; "thank you Grey." "Been a while" Zora scoffed, he was slung over the couch relaxed; "it has been since the last social visit, huh?" "Indeed." Secre nodded in agreement.
"Do you wanna fight?!" Luck appeared out of nowhere; Zenon sweat dropped, "not right now, Luck." "Well haven't you gotten manlier recently!" Magna laughed; Zenon grew bashful, "thanks, Magna. Thought I don't really agree..." "Heeeeey youuuuu twooooo" Henry greeted; "hello Henry." "To think we only saw you a few days ago" Noelle flickered her hair as she greeted Zenon in her own unique way; "it's good to see you again, Noelle." "I'm so very glad to have my two bestest friends back." Gordon mumbled; "the feeling's mutual, Gordon." You weren't shocked by the way Zenon interacted with them, but you hadn't realised just how much of a connection they had grown to have. They were Zenon's family now- then again, you'd all technically killed his other one.
You just hid in the shadows against the wall- behind a pillar in the corner. You didn't want to interact with them, you didn't want to even be here; but if you didn't, then there was a chance Zenon would get himself killed. Wait- Why did you even care? You couldn't understand why you even came in the first place. He was an adult; he could look after himself. Besides, the way the Black Bulls behaved disgusted you. Their Vice-Captain disgusted you.
"Hey kid!" Yami slung his arm around Zenon's neck, wrapping around him. Zenon looked down bashfully, caressing the back of his neck, fidgeting, "hey, captain." It had been two years since he was saved by the lot of you, yet he still reacted in such a different way to physical contact. He'd grow bashful, fidget, squirm, and even blush sometimes. It made you curious to just how long and how much he'd been devoid of all forms of physical contact other than violent attacks. You knew just how his siblings could be, and it made you mind drift to wonder if they'd ever hit him. No matter what his past had to say, he was smiling now, beside his friends and comrades. He had a home. Even if you didn't know it or refused to admit it, it was a home that you gave him.
Your hood was down but your face was still hidden by the shadows. There was nothing to see anyway. You wore your usual cold scowl and emotionless eyes. The tips of your hair fell over your eyes just like when you were a child, the very ends moved across your eyes slowly. Your (E/C) eyes were visible, as if glowing amongst the dark. Terrifying. Your gloved fists were clenched underneath your cloak that hid your body aside from your head and boots. Your guard was up, more than when you were fighting the devils that attacked the base.
What dulled your expression more was when Nacht appeared from behind Yami. "Put Zenon down, Yami. You fool. Can't you see your making him uncomfortable?" Nacht rolled his eyes as he shoved Yami lightly. "It's okay. I-I don't mind..." Zenon assured Nacht happily, but it appeared that it was to his own surprise too. He was fully happy and content; something you hadn't yet seen from him. He may have been born in Spade and welcomed back there, but this was his home. And unfortunately, it was yours too.
"It's always good having you around, Zenon." Finral assured him. "Thank you, Finral. It means a lot for you to say that..." Zenon was truly happy. You wondered how he could have had such a shitty past and life, then bounce back so well- so completely. "Well, even if the papers say your not, you're always a part of the Black Bulls. That goes for you too, (Y/N)" Finral smiled at you. "(Y/N)?" Nacht's head shot up, eyes scanning the room to find you. Upon landing on you, he looked in surprise. You just glared at him before looking away. Nacht's shoulders dropped. Yami laughed, "didn't expect to see you here again, kid! Miss us that much?!"
