Your next lot of shifts seemed to fly by. David still attempted to make conversation with you; only to be shot down as soon as he started. He wasn't going to give up though. Nacht seemed to keep away from you after your outburst of truth two nights ago. He didn't try to talk to you, didn't approach you, didn't follow you. He left you alone, just like you wanted him to. His heart shattered every time he saw you. You were so important to him- you always had been.

Your dawn shift was shared with Mimosa. You couldn't say you hated the girl. Her tardiness had given you a bad perspective of her, but she seemed to be genuinely apologetic. She didn't want you to hate her. You paced back and forth, patrolling your designated area; the larger area of the two. You could see everything from up on the defensive wall. It had been a slow couple of days, but you had a job to do.

You could see Mimosa coming back into your sights. "Mimosa" you greeted, cold as usual. "Good morning, (Y/N)!" Mimosa waved to you politely. The way she held herself was different to what you were expecting. Nothing at all like Noelle. She learnt pretty quickly that her royal status meant absolutely nothing to you. She didn't press that matter either. Mimosa on the other hand was polite, respectful, realises her mistakes and does what she can to fix then as quickly as possible. She was like a female version of Zenon, only softer and probably less useful.

Mimosa stood beside you when you didn't immediately walk off. You stopped to take in the sunrise, seeing its stunning pastels once again. "It's beautiful, isn't it" Mimosa awed at the sun, smiling softly. Your gaze flickered down to her, despite how cold and harsh you were bring, she was still making the effort to speak to you. 'Why?' You couldn't understand. Her eyes sparkled at the sun; she must have found it stunning. You only found the sunrise enjoyable because it was guaranteed. It happened every morning. You didn't have to fear it disappearing one day forever.

"I've always liked the sunrise. I used to drag my brother Kirsch up out of bed to watch it with me. We both found it beautiful. The way the many shades of orange and reds lined the sky, their colours morphing together perfectly until it raised to reveal the stunning clear blue sky. I haven't been able to do this in a while now that I think about it" she smiled happily. You certainly didn't come off as an approachable person, so why was she still standing there, talking to you? "What do you think about the sunrise?" She looked up at you, her yellow eyes met your (E/C) eyes looking back at her. Seeing you already looking down at her, her face erupted in shades of red, letting out gasp. You looked back over the open land, "they're fine."

You turned away, walking off again already. Mimosa watched you, 'w-what was that? I thought...' Mimosa trailed off in her own thoughts. To her, you didn't seem as cold as yesterday. If anything, you were just that tiniest bit... nicer? You hadn't told her to shut up, you hadn't berated her or insulted her. Why did everyone say you were cold and rude? After that display, it was question with a foreign answer to her.

There are parts of you that still unintentionally and unknowingly showed kindness and forgiveness; despite forgiveness not being your strong suit. You rarely forgave anyone, no matter how small or insignificant the incident was. There were three people you'd never forgive for what they did. You deemed them as unjust evil, pure conniving evil. Something you didn't fear, but still hated.

The rest of your shift flew by, as did the day. You weren't sure if Zenon was ready to return to his duties just yet. A part of you told you something bad would happen, you didn't want him out there. You could deal with whatever it was by yourself. Deciding it best to speak to Zenon first, you set off for his room. Where else would he be? He was still a little skittish after two years.

When you arrived you knocked, to no answer. You knocked again, again. There was still no answer. Becoming irked, you kicked into the door right by the handle, causing the door to fly open. You entered the room, "Zenon." No reply. You looked around; it was empty, silent. Nothing had been touched, his bed was made neatly. He wasn't in here.

You turned on your heel with a tut, shutting the door. You made your way to the breakroom, the only other place you could think off. Surely enough, through the crack in the door, you could see Zenon sitting by himself at one of the tables. He no longer wore the sling that held up his arm. Maybe he really was alright. You entered the breakroom, scanning to confirm there was no one else. You shut the door behind yourself.

"Vice-Captain!" Zenon smiled happily, looking up from the food that was set in front of him. You could remember shortly after he'd joined the squad; when you were still a Black Bull. He was practically paper-thin. He didn't eat, didn't sleep. And it was from well before he transitioned to Clover. You weren't even sure how he was so strong, let alone standing with how sick he looked. It almost made you feel something seeing how far he'd come. "Vice-Captain?" Zenon tilted his head at you. You looked at him blankly, "Zenon."

"Here:" Zenon pulled the chair that was beside him out, gesturing for you to sit beside him. You sat down beside him, sitting back into the wooden frame of the chair. "Do you mind if I..." he trailed off. You raised your hand and shook your head. "Thank you!" He immediately began to eat the meal before him. It was a full lunch, rice, veggies, meat. He was actually eating happily. You'd lost count how many times you'd pinned him and forced food down his throat previously.

"Are you okay, sir?" He tilted his head at you. You nodded once, getting the message across. "What do you need, sir? Or are you just waiting for out shift?" He inquired before taking a mouthful of food. You looked at him with an emotionless gaze, "I came to see if you had healed enough to go on your shift or if you need me to reassign it. If you're not well enough then I will get someone else to do it. I don't need the Clover Kingdom getting attacked because you're too injured to do your job." You told him, your voice matching your expression.

Zenon held his arm up, revealing it no longer in a cast, just a thin bandage around his forearm, "I'm all good to go, sir! I'm really looking forward to our shift too! Aside from the dungeon mission, it'll be the first mission I've been able to work beside you in months. I'm really looking forward to it. I swear, what's left of my injury won't interfere with it!" He smiled. You never realised that he enjoyed going on missions with you. He was quite passive. You nodded in response to his question. Standing up, you shoved your hands into your pockets. "I'll see you in an hour then." You began to approach the door.

"Vice-Captain (Y/N)!" You heard David's unusually serious shout.
