Finral had been kind enough to open a portal between your base and theirs to allow for easier transportation there, Zenon had gathered everyone in the courtyard for you this morning as well, everything was going smoothly. It had been a week and four days since Zenon pulled you from your own self-loathing mind. It was weird, almost lifting now. You were no longer trapped in a thick fog. Your head was slowly growing clearer bit-by-bit, you were able to focus more on your squad and their missions. Your workload seemed nothing anymore compared to what it used to be. While it was still a pain for you to sleep, nightmares waking you every hour, you were at least trying now. You hadn't seen Mimosa since you rescued her, and you weren't sure you could quite face her just yet. Ever since Zenon blatantly stated emotions you felt weirdly about, you felt your blood rush at the mere mention of her name.

You walked out into the yard as the selected newbies filed through Finral's portal. "Good morning, Captain!" Zenon greeted you with a wave as you approached him, his eyesight was good, he could see you from many feet away. You gave him a small wave, your face natural, "morning." "I got everyone here and they're all awaiting your instructions at the Black Bulls hideout." "Thank you," you nodded, "will you be alright to handle all the work there is to do here?" Zenon smiled, nodding enthusiastically, "I've got it, Captain, don't worry. I'll see you when you get back!" "Alright." You walked through Finral's portal without another word.

The sun was bright on the other side as you stepped through, however, it wasn't hot. You doubted the risk of the knights getting heat stroke. "Hey, (Y/N)!" Finral greeted chirpily as he walked over to you. Before you could speak, your attention was dragged by maniacal laughter, sounds of terror, and loud bangs. To no surprise, Luck, Magna, and Zora were giving your squadmates grief. Magna was intimidating them, flames in his hands as he stared them down. Luck was blasting the ground around them, trying to provoke them into fighting him. Zora was simply ridiculing them for their reactions and throwing stink bugs at them whilst laughing. You were irked.

You silently approached the three with a dead look on your face. They hadn't heard you come up behind them. "Step away from my squad members." Your voice was flat. The pressure of your mana made Magna gulp, immediately stepping away. Zora looked at you're with narrowed eyes, trying to intimidate you right back. You weren't having that, your eyes dropped even more, "I said, step away, Zora." With a roll of his eyes and a sigh, Zora walked away. All that was left was Luck. Luck got right into your face, "will you fight me then?!" Out the corner of your eyes, you could see your squad staring at Luck in panic at his words. What was he thinking? You could almost hear their thoughts shout. "Luck, I will not tolerate you scaring my squad. Move away, or I'll take you out of the training. Understand me?" "Awwww, you're no fun!" Luck pouted as he moved away. Before you could resume your conversation with Finral, one of your squad members called out, "t-thank you Captain!" You looked back and nodded, "no problem. You don't need to worry." Your words spiraled their thoughts; surly they hadn't heard you correctly.

"Long time no see, (Y/N)!" You looked to your left to see Asta walking towards you with a big grin on his face, followed closely by Noelle, "It's good to see you again, (Y/N)." "Indeed." Asta was repetitively perked up whenever he heard you speak to them in a non-aggressive or cold way. It was different and it would take some time to adjust to it now too. Even Noelle felt happy to hear you not insult them. The entire time they had known you, you had been cold, or angry with them, or disappointed in them. Now, you were willing to at least try to make peace with them. That was all they could ever ask for.

"Now then, I hope you don't mind, but because Yami never bothered to consult with me, I had to come up with the training regimen on my own. Will you be alright to go along with that or did you have something in mind?" You had to remind yourself not to be harsh when you spoke. It would take practice and a lot of time, but it was something you felt you needed to change in order to move forward. To be someone who you believed would make the Captain proud. Asta scratched the back of his neck, nervous chuckles escaping his mouth, "well, truth is, I have no clue on how to train younger knights. This is my first time." Finral and Noelle seemed to share Asta's feeling. "We'll go with whatever you want, kiddo" Vanessa answered your question, giving you a thumbs up. Your squad members watched you in anticipation of your reply. They were being so casual with you- calling you nicknames. What were they thinking? Your answer, was, however, simple, "I see."
