Startling awake with a jolt your eyes quickly scanned the room, frantically searching from the smoky figure from your dreams. Where were you? Your heart raced, your head turned, your chest thumped up and down. That's right- you were in Kiten. You were on a mission. You were safe in your room. Slowly your chest began to slow back down, your breathing calming too. Looking down at the wood you realised, 'I must have fallen asleep at my desk. What's with all this sleeping?' You'd been sleeping a lot more often than usual.
Clutching your head, you rest it in the palm of your hand, propped up by your elbow. Your mind flickered back to the images from your dream. If only you didn't dream, it would make things far easier. That same god-forsaken dream. Why wouldn't it leave you alone? It was Hell waking over and over again- every time you fell asleep. Forced to relive the hellish night that your world came crashing down, the night your normal changed forever.
Pushing back from the desk, you stood up, approaching the bathroom. You grabbed the empty glass that set on the basin. You filled it with water before raising it to your lips. The cool water rushed down your throat, adding to your pulsing headache before soothing it with it's icey temperature. You finished gulping down the glass before placing it back down on the edge of the basin, raising your sleeve to wipe any extra drips from your face and mouth.
You raised your head, your eyes meeting with matching ones in the mirror. You were sweating again, your hair was dishevelled, you looked sickly pale. You could see your own tiredness beginning to show in your eyes. Your thought was, 'this shouldn't be happening. I've slept twice this week.' Your mind flickered back to the dream again. You raised your head, turning it to look at your neck. Seeing the scratchy black scar that clamped each side of your throat, you had conflicted emotions. Were you sad or disgusted? Either way, you didn't care.
Right now, you needed (F/D). Exiting the bathroom, you changed your shirt from the sweat-soaked one and threw your cloak over the top. You left your room, making sure to lock it. You stalked down the halls in silence, aiming solely for the cafeteria. You ignored the few that you passed, entering the somewhat busy room. David happily chatter to Yuno while Mimosa, Asta, and Liebe sat together. They were so loud.
You chose to pretend they weren't there. Turning around, you made your way to the cupboard. You pulled out a plain blue mug, setting down on the bench before putting the kettle on the stove. "Afternoon, (Y/N)!" Asta beamed. You didn't reply. Asta's face dropped at the lack of reply that came from you. You could feel all their eyes on you. You heard someone stand up and begin to approach you. An arm was suddenly slung over your shoulder again. "What do you want, David?" You questioned coldly. "Come on, (Y/N), don't be so harsh. All he did was greet you. You could afford to be a little nicer" David smiled at you. The kettle began whistling. You shrugged David off and picked up the kettle, filling the water up to the rim. You placed the kettle back down and picked up you (F/D). You brought it to your lips, taking a sip.
The stress seemed to vacate your body as soon as the warm liquid reached the back of your throat. Soothing. "How are your injuries?" Yuno inquired, readjusting his position so he could look back at you. "Fine. As if they never existed." You shrugged. Asta looked down, he could tell from your Ki you still felt some pain from them. They were bad. "So then how did you sleep?" David questioned from beside you- a cake in hand. Where did the cake some from? "What do you mean?" "Well, Zenon wouldn't let us knock on your door to disturb you, so I figured you were asleep!" David shrugged, taking a massive bite of his cake. "I had paperwork to do." You answered him. You weren't going to let them know you fell asleep.
You took notice of the orange-haired girl looking down at her hands in her lap as she fidgeted with them. 'What's her problem?' You took another sip of her drink. 'What did she say her name was...? That's right; Mimosa.' "Mimosa." You called shortly. You watched as she visibly stiffened. "Y-Yeah?" She stood up, her eyes joining with yours. She held her hands to her chest, still fidgeting with her hands. "What's wrong? If your off your game your shifts need to be covered. We can't afford a mage to be off their game if Diamond attacks Kiten." You questioned- it coming out more aggressive than you intended.
Mimosa's head fell, "nothings wrong... I just..." Yuno stood up, facing you with an underlying rage. "Don't speak to Mimosa like that." Yuno snapped. Mimosa gasped, bringing a hand to her mouth. Your eyes dulled as they bore holes into the Golden Dawn's Vice-Captain, placing your cup down onto the bench behind you, "would you prefer you be held liable for Kiten's destruction- or worst-case scenario, the death of your wondering Squadmate?" You and Yuno began an unintentional staring contest. "At least I know I'm not the only one that has beef with the annoying prick." Liebe chuckled. "Liebe" Asta sweat dropped.
You could see Yuno's hand going for his grimoire. "You stand no chance against me, Yuno Grinberryall. Do not test that theory" you warned him. That's right, you felt no fear towards him and what you viewed his childish power. He hadn't lost someone right in front of him, he hasn't trained as hard as you have. You were a Magic Knight before you even had a grimoire, you were far stronger than he was. Besides... you didn't hesitate.
Before the situation escalated further, another mage entered the room. Neither you nor Yuno flinched, didn't shift your gaze. "What's going on here?" He sounded horrified. Zenon. You watched as the dishevelled black-haired male stepped between you and Yuno. "Why are you fighting? We all need to work together on this" Zenon held his hands out to each of you. "He's right, you know" David chimed in. "Then keep your Vice-Captain in line" Yuno's gaze flickered to Zenon for a moment. Zenon's shoulders dropped, "please, don't fight. I'm begging you."
You looked away, picking up your mug, you took another sip of your drink. Yuno was still ready to attack you. "Yuno, it's okay..." Mimosa told him. "Mimosa, the way he treated you, it's unacceptable." Yuno stated. You went to walk out; you didn't care for this. "He was right. I was off my game for a moment there." Mimosa turned to you. "I wanted to apologise to you!" Mimosa called out to you, forcing you to cease your steps away. "I wanted to say sorry for being so late the other day. I'm so sorry. Please forgive me!" Mimosa bowed behind you. You were silent for a moment. "It's forgiven." You left without another word.
They all watched as you walked away. Zenon let out a sigh, as did Asta. "He's honestly so hard to deal with" Yuno grumbled as he sat back down. "I don't think it's his fault though" Asta defended you, ' I can always sense than underlying feeling of fear and sadness in his Ki.' "He needs to learn that his coldness makes him an asshole" Liebe backed Yuno. "Now, now, that's quite mean. Give the kiddo a chance" David smiled. "I don't think he's a bad person." Mimosa added on, still looking out the door you exited.
Zenon sat down on a nearby chair, facing the others, "has he-... has he always been like this...?" Asta raised his head and looked at Zenon, "I'd seen (Y/N) a few times before the big fight in Spade, and he always seemed so cold. I'm not sure who's known (Y/N) the longest, but they'd be the best person to ask. Whenever we've seen him; he's been so emotionless." "Was he like that in Spade?" David gazed to Zenon, who lowered his head down further. "When I first met him, it was like a reflection of who I was- but worse. I'd never seen someone so cold and emotionless, without a care in the world. Seeing no emotion even after the way Dante treated him. Some of his actions and words frightened me." Zenon answered honestly.
"It doesn't matter" Yuno looked out the window. "It doesn't give him the right to be so aggressive and cruel towards everyone." "I'm with him" Liebe backed. "Maybe we just need to find out about his past. Maybe Captain Yami will know! I'll ask him!" Asta beamed at the thought.
