Zenon ran up from behind. He wrapped his arms under Asta's and began to pull the boy back from the fighting. "Zenon?" "I'm getting you away from that. Those devils could have killed you!" Once Asta was far enough away, Zenon removed his arms, letting the boy sit back upright. Nacht and Yami raced over to him; you were successfully holding back all the devils on your own for now. Zenon immediately began to healing the young males wounds. "Asta, we told you to fall back! What were you thinking?!" Nacht scolded him, his devil union flaking away. "I wasn't going to just let you fight on your own." Asta replied. "Damn it, kid" Yami shook his head.
Asta looked back to you as you fought; you were easily overpowering all these devils. "Is that (Y/N)?" Asta inquired. Nacht looked back to your wolf form, nodding. "Yes. It was the first spell he was ever able to use. Only, the last time I saw it, it was much smaller." "You're telling me. He fit on my forearm last time I saw him in this form" Yami shook his head in disbelief. You'd grown far more than he could ever have expected. "I can't believe he can use a spell like that" Noelle gaped.
"As soon as the Vice-Captain found out you were being attacked, he raced over here. We landed in the forest nearby. He ordered me to approach from behind and get the wounded to safety inside. However..." Zenon trailed off as he looked at the ground. "What?" Yami inquired. "I... I don't think he wanted to use this spell. I could see the hesitancy in his actions before he cast the spell. These are high-ranked devils. If he hesitates... he'll get killed in an instant." Zenon's hands shook despite how much he tried to control them; his hands were the first tell. He was afraid.
"You're right, Zenon." Zenon looked to Nacht quicker than he could blink. "I know (Y/N). I've known him since he was an infant. And I know he hates that spell. There was only ever one person who made him feel that his spell was amazing. But now." Nacht couldn't find the words to finish his statement. Yami shared a glance with the slowly breaking Nacht. "Take a look at his eyes, Yami." Was all Nacht could bring himself to say. When you next turned your head, Yami caught a glimpse at the familiar toned eyes. With widened eyes, Yami gasped, "Morgen?" No one understood the silent conversation Nacht and Yami shared with their next glance.
Zenon held his hands out in front of him, directed at Asta's back. A pale light began between the two. "Please, save him. I'm begging you, save the Vice-Captain." Zenon pleaded. "What're you-?" "I'm using my mana to heal your wounds and give you strength. You three are the only ones that truly stand a chance to save Vice-Captain (Y/N)." Zenon explained. "What are you thinking, don't do that!" Asta tried to pull away, but Zenon stopped him. "No. All I'm good for is defending the base in this situation. Even then, there's a chance I'll faulter in the face of a devil like this. So, I'll defend the base and the others to the best of my ability. But I need you... to help the Vice-Captain. Please." Zenon's concentration in the moment wasn't matched by anyone else. Asta gave in and let him do as he pleased.
Zenon stepped back as Asta took to his feet. Then, his grimoire opened and flicked past a few pages before glowing brighter. Using his Bone Magic, he created a bubble with defence spells at the ready all around the base. "I'm going to heal the others which means I can hold this for no more than fifteen minutes." Zenon informed them. "We've got this. Let's give that kid a hand." Yami smiled as he stepped out. "Right" Nacht and Asta nodded.
You didn't see the devil that ran at you from behind. It had more than two arms that wrapped around you in multiple places, retraining you. It's top two arms, strongest ones, encircled your throat and squeezed tightly. You couldn't breathe. This form was you after all. Air began to leave your lungs, not returning. You felt a devil's long claws rip at your belly, peeling back skin layer by skin layer. You could hear their cackling laughter and your winces of pain. Your brain was turning fuzzy, not allowing you to cast a spell. Your body was growing heavier and heavier, your form was shrinking slowly.
