"Finral...?"

"(Y/N)! Are you alright?" Why was he worried about you? They'd known this was coming up. Why wasn't he worrying about himself? This whole situation- he shouldn't be here. "You seem surprised by his appearance." Your head shot back to Damnatio. "What is he doing here? What are you playing at?" Your voice had dropped completely low, dangerous, flat. It was a shock that you were able to hold your composure despite the anger you felt. "It was also brought to my attention that Finral Roulacase was a part of the incident regarding Miss Praxi." You gritted your teeth, looking at Silvia out the corner of your eye, what was she playing at?

Damnatio turned and met Finral's eyes while your mind churned in your head. "Finral Roulacase. Eldest son of the noblemen Ledior Vaude. Born and raised in the noble realm. A member of the Black Bulls." "Y-Yeah?" Finral stuttered out. He was fine when it came to breaking in to rescue Asta, but now that he's the one here in cuffs, he was back to being normal Finral. "A Black Bull? How vulgar." "Ledior's boy? That can't be right." Whispers and mutters erupted once Damnatio had spoken.

"Finral has nothing to do with this, you're convicting me, remember?" Your voice brought Damnatio's attention back to you, "I disagree. After all, according to the report from Miss Praxi, Finral was the one who instigated the fight." What? "W-What?" Finral squeaked out, not entirely sure of what was transpiring. That was a lie. Finral was backed into a corner terrified of what was happening. He wasn't the instigator of the fight. "That's a lie. Finral didn't do anything. She was the one who was going to harm him."

"Surly you understand. All of this lies in the balance. Miss Praxi's family influence a large portion of the noble realm, therefor in order to keep the peace, the blame must fall upon someone. Someone must be punished for the crimes committed. Now that someone can either be you, or Finral. Unless of course you put forward another reasonable name." Now you understood. Damnatio wasn't after you, he wasn't after Finral. He wanted Zenon for what Lucius did; Julius was untouchable, so Zenon was his best option. "Neither of us is to blame. It is Silvia you need to be prosecuting." You wouldn't faulter. You wouldn't let him pin this blame on anyone but her. "Make your choice (Y/N). You or him. One of you must pay for the crimes to restore balance." Damnatio gestured to the mages who now had their wands pointed to Finral. You could either throw him under a bus he wasn't driving, or you take the blame. Your mind raced, what were you supposed to do.

"Three... Two...-" You opened your mouth to give in when a shout with matching footsteps broke through the courtroom, "stop it!" Everyone's attention was drawn to the shout. Zenon slid to a stop in front of Finral, holding his arms out to shield the Spatial mage. "Zenon?" Finral gasped out. Your eyes widened, no matter how much you tried to withhold it, your eyes widened. "The Spade rat." "How dare filth like him step foot in here." "Who does he think he is?" "Disgusting." "Such an irritating brat." Mutters filled the room. "Zenon... what are you...?" Finral couldn't find the words. Zenon took a harsh breath in, "I won't let you hurt them!" Damnatio looked to Zenon, "how nice of you to join us, Zogratis." "Captain (Y/N) and Finral did nothing wrong! You're convicting the wrong people!" Damnatio raised his head slightly, "is this your way of confessing?" "No, it's not." Zenon shook his head.

"You're just convicting them because a noblewoman came crying to you, this isn't justice. Finral was the victim of this case, and the Captain defended him, that's what there is to it! You say you hold fair and just trials, but that's a lie! If you did, you'd have heard the captain's side of the story as well; including all the Black Bulls that witnessed the attack!" Zenon stated, "I get it. People like you don't understand. You've never had to fight for you life, fight for your friends and family; but that's because the Magic Knights did it for you! They are the ones protecting you from feeling that suffering... How can you turn your back against them? How can you try them for something they didn't do?!"
