You exited Cob's spatial portal with Zenon alongside Cob, who was dressed in pinstripe grey and black. You were let out right in front of the church this was to take place in. A place of God. Your nose scrunched up for a moment. If there really was a god, or gods, why did they let things like this happen to good people? Morgen? Captain Anderson? They never did anything in their lives that would constitute the suffering deaths they were forced through- it didn't even constitute them having to feel pain in the first place. Why did they take innocent souls? People who should have lived long lives rather than those who forced others to suffer. It was disgusting.
A group of people dressed in black had gathered closer to the doors- the other people invited. William was the first to acknowledge your and Zenon's presences, "(Y/N), Zenon, it's good to see you both." That made everyone turn to the two of you. Your eyes quickly scanned over to see who was in attendance. Cob, Charlotte, Rill, Walter, Kaiser, Jack, Fuegoleon, Leopold, Mereoleona, Nozel, Dorothy, Kirsch, Yami, Nacht, William, Yuno. Eighteen including you and Zenon, not including Julius and Marx. You were glad Julius had ordered a limited number on the mages. You wouldn't have been able to handle it otherwise- you could realise that now. "I wish it were under better circumstance, Captain Vangeance" Zenon admitted. William's face had a mutual look of sadness.
"How are you doing, (Y/N)?" Kaiser inquired, turning to you. What was the point in even asking? You just stared blankly, wordlessly. "(Y/N)?" William called out; he was worried about you. They all were. No matter what way you put it, the saw you that day- they saw you break down in anger and sadness. They sa fear creep into your eyes. It showed that you were just as human as they were. You weren't going to answer them, you found no point. Was anyone even okay at the moment? You had to be- your felt you had to be. If you weren't, the squad she'd worked so hard to build would crumble to dust in a matter of seconds. "(Y/N) please, we're just worried about you" Dorothy tried. It was all they could do. Your reply was simple, "don't be."
"You both cleaned up very nicely" Rill complimented, trying to lighten the mood as he usually did. Zenon's response was different than usual, "thank you." "Clearly, we simply respected the Captain. Something I can't confidently state about majority of you." You were snappier than usual, and they understood why. "Especially you, Yami. You couldn't even be bothered to wear proper formal attire for the event. You're filthy." "Please don't be so harsh, (Y/N). We understand that you're hurting- but Yami doesn't deserve-" Charlotte tried. There was nothing much you could really say against her; she wore a simple black dress, black boots, and a black pin in her hair, her squad robe over the top. "He doesn't deserve what? To be called out for his blatant disrespectful dressing to attend his fellow Captain's funeral. Do you all simply lac the knowledge of that civility?"
"Can't you just not be a complete jerk to everyone for one day? Your captain is dead." Yuno clenched his fists, as he bit as you through gritted teeth. Your seemingly deader eyes fell on him, "you think I don't know that? I was there, you ass. It was my captain who died- how would you feel if it was yours?" Yuno's eyes narrowed further, and he took a short step back. "Do not test me today, Yuno Grinberryall. You will end up hurt." "You're taking to threatening me? Again?" Yuno approached you, getting close to your face, "I don't want to fight you on a day like today, but I will if you keep this up." You remained unfazed, "just you try it." Yuno's arm tensed; he was going to take a swing at you. "I dare you." You were testing him, and he was giving into it so easily. Today was not the day to mess with you. Today was not the day to anger you.
"Vice-Captain, please..." You stopped any of your movements. There was a tug on your left arm from behind, "please, sir. Don't fight today. Captain Anderson wouldn't have wanted you to fight. ... I don't want you to fight. Please. I'm begging you, Vice-Captain. For Captain Anderson..." Zenon's pleading voice made you halt your movements. He was right. Your Captain wouldn't want you to fight. You tugged your arm away from Zenon and brushed past Yuno. "Captain Anderson would disapprove of our behaviour, you're right. I'm not above admitting you're right. But never- don't you ever use that as an escape again." "R-Right..." Zenon shied back away; starring at the ground as he began to fiddle with the cuffs of his shirt again. It was clear by Zenon's actions that he was still shaken from earlier. He was terrified. You'd have to speak to Julius afterwards on dealing with that mage.
