LATER that same day, the small group finally made it back to the Wheeler's residence. The entire time Eleven hung close to Mike while Mary and Dustin followed closely behind.
Mary noticed the proximity between the two young kids. Especially with Mike, the way he stared at her when she wasn't looking. How his eyes automatically soften whenever he would look at her.
Then the pieces came together for her. He likes her. It all made sense. Why he seem outspokenly protective over her and why he was so hesitant to initially trust Mary? He was doing all of this for Eleven. Because he cares about her.
Mary also noticed how Eleven strongly seemed to trust Mike too.
"He's basically in love with her," Dustin spoke under his breath. Confirming her suspicions. "Been like that since he met her honestly. It's sweet in a way but also gross," he scrunched his nose.
Mary doesn't say anything as they accompany Mike and Eleven across the plotted dry grass. The boys and Mary wheeled their bikes down the slight hill of Mike's yard and towards the basement.
Mary leans her bike against the wall next to the entrance door outside the basement. Her head did a double take when she noticed a large van parked outside the curb. In the driver's seat was an older man with a thick mustache with a repair uniform. His eyes were staring straight across as if he was waiting for someone.
Mary looked away paying no mind to him as the gang walked alongside of his house and towards the basement. The boys sat their bikes down as they entered the door through the basement.
"I'm going to help Eleven get cleaned up," Mike announced to them before the both of them departed into the bathroom.
Mary eyed them carefully before plopping her body on the couch. She didn't realize how tired her body was. She was in an absolute need of rest — mentally and physically. She's not used to exerting so much power and she hasn't had time to properly heal from it. She barely practiced her powers since she left the lab. Now using all her powers at once was making her feel weak.
