A young little girl who didn't look older than five years old stood in a room filled with such odd-looking equipment that her young mind couldn't comprehend. There were so many people staring more like examining Zero like a rare species that has yet to be discovered. They were holding clipboards and notebooks. They all stood on top of a rail behind a glass window.
The only people she could make out were Papa and Miss Penny. The only ones who she knew and was comfortable with. She noticed the distinct difference in expression between Papa and Miss Penny. Papa looked eager and confident with a hint of gleam. Almost like he was proud of her. Or maybe proud of himself. While Miss Penny looked horrified and worried but not because she was scared of Zero, but scared for her. Of what she'll have to do.
Zero typically never has any issue displaying her power in front of people, especially Papa and Miss Penny. But this time it felt different. More real. More serious. Considering there was a room filled with men in sophisticated suits with such inquisitive expressions. All eyes were on her. And she didn't like that one bit.
The door opened which didn't go unnoticed by Zero and three men who worked for Papa came inside the faculty. She knew they were Papa's men because of the all-white shirt and pants, and all of the workers wore white.
One by one, each of Papa's men brought in someone with their heads covered in a black sack, making it impossible for them to see. She couldn't make out the gender of the maskable figures. She heard loud and rough muffles from each of the people. Zero's heart clenched at the sound they were making. The sight before her made her uncomfortable and she suddenly felt scared of why they were here.
"Alright now, Zero..." Papa's voice echoed throughout the room. He hovered down towards the microphone staring directly at her.
"Today's test is very important. I need for you to use your special abilities on them..."
Little Zero looked up at Papa who was already staring down at her distress state. She has used her abilities for many things but never at human beings. Zero couldn't even stomach using her abilities on anyone. She even has a hard time using them on animals. Watching their innocent eyes escape from their body as she watched them die.
Papa had heavily convinced her that they were just animals and their lives were meaningless. Is that how he feels about human beings? Since he wants her to use her powers on them, ultimately resulting in their death.
