Chapter 25

Propelling forward, a black clad individual squinted her eyes to get a clear view of what's ahead fighting the gushing wind rushing past her.

Melipione could only trust her perception ability to quickly find the escaped senior researcher, Walcher. If not for her acquired bound artifact, she would've take ages before finding Walcher. Perhaps, he might've escaped instead.

With her extra perception ability, she could look past the structure of the Nightmare's Hearth. Meaning, she could find Walcher at a faster time.

Melipione observed every little signs of movements on the surroundings, mark of shoes, and even the scuffled dirt on the floor. Tossed around in a messy way, evidence of a hurried man that ran like a hurricane. Melipione even thought if the man have a movement related ability.

Turning left from the intersection which the tracks trail on, Melipione saw a large Black door in a distance.

She could feel the familiar filthy presence she was looking for behind the door. Melipione was about to use her perception ability to ascertain the structure of the room beforehand however, at that moment, her eyes suddenly began to hurt inderscribably.

Melipione had not much time to test the ancient artifact Ring of Perception yet so she only knew little of it's abilities. So far, she only used her perception ability sparingly and rarely because she had nothing important to use it to. In fact, she only used it occasionally for practicing matters but that was it.

Power comes with price and consequences. There are no free lunches in the world. In order to gain something great, you must also pay a great price in exchange. Melipione's bounded artifact, Ring of Perception is also one of those.
Melipione haven't tested the limitations and consequences of the Ring of Perception yet. However, at this moment where her eyes would hurt so much that she wouldn't be surprised if  blood would seep out of her sockets at that moment, it seems that the longer you use the artifact, it would take toll on your eyes in the form of physical pain.

Melipione have no qualms about it because compared to the book of ouroboros where the price she had to pay is her life span, this much damage at the cost of using the artifact is nothing.

It just happened that the consequence took toll at the most crucial moment. Melipione could only curse her own unluckiness to be unfortunate that she couldn't use the ability when the enemy is just in front of her. Now Melipione had to face an unknown danger lurking upfront.

What is unknown is dangerous.

Melipione held her breath as tight as possible as to not reveal her presence.

In the face of the unknown danger, Melipione dared not  beat the grass and startle the snake.

She cautiously move forward without making a sound.

As she carefully opened the door, a deathly silence engulfed the surroundings.

Melipione checked the room, looking for a presence

There were four human sized containers aligned at the right side of the room

All of which contains a green liquid bubbling continuously as if alive. Tubes and unidentified paraphernalias were attached to each tube.

The humongous glass container seemed like a place were specimens and test subjects were placed.

To the left side were various lab and experiment tools and equipments placed on a white rectangular wooden table.

Melipione carefully, and slowly roamed her eyes around, still standing at the doorstep

She deeply inhaled, chemical compounds aggressively invaded her nostrils.

Melipione took a step forward, while feeling her surroundings. She sharpened her five senses, wary of the unknown dangers of the laboratory room.

Melipione rather stride to the right side where the cylindrical glass containers are erected to observe at a closer look.

Fine miniature cracks forming a figure of a spiderweb were printed on the surface of the glass. At a glance, one more careless touch and the green liquid contained inside would burst through the cracks at any moment.

Signs of struggle and powerful force trying to break out were visible.

The other three containers were anywhere less or worse. There were leakage on the glass as if rushing out to breathe. The heavy stench of chemical compounds were much more suffocating now that Melipione were much closer.

Melipione felt dizzy. Sounds of alarms were ringing in her head.

'clever'

The senior researcher cleverly led Melipione here to take advantage of the surrounding. The most optimal place for him to fight for a better chance of survival.

Sure enough, Melipione was nowhere near familiar with any of the things in this lab. But that doesn't mean she doesn't know the general operation of the existence of the things here.

At that moment, the back of her neck suddenly felt cold.

Melipione instinctively sidestepped to dodge what was coming after her with her agility but she was inevitably hit on her shoulder because of the suddenness of the attack.

Melipione gritted her teeth to prevent groaning as she endured the stinging pain coursing through her back shoulder.

Instead of paying attention to her wound, Melipione warily eyed the unknown enemy who sneaked attack on her.

Effective immediately, Melipione's face become distorted.

Disgust, anger, and a great sense of repulsion filled her gaze as she decisively stared at the hideous creature crawling at the top of her head.

A human half body with Disoriented body parts of spider legs on his lower half and scythe attached on his arms from a monster. Four slick and slimy black tentacles squirming on his back.

Melipione forced herself not to wince or react out of disgust.

At the same time, the  sinister feeling creeping out to her the moment she entered the room kicked in.

-kiikikiiiik kikikikiiii

The monster let out an eerie ear splitting laugh as if mocking a prey in front of it.

Melipione could not help but grimace in front of a great danger threatening her life.

'Damn Chimera'

She took a step back, nailed her calf on the ground and form a fighting stance to prepare for any possible attack from the monster. She held her dagger to her dear life as her face turned incredibly solemn.

Melipione knew, at her current state, she was no match for the monster.

-kiikikiiiik kekeke...!! Now, behold my new form! You're no different from a pest in front of my newfound power! You think you could kill me? I'll devour you and I'll absorb your powers too, human!! Kiiikkk..!!! Kekeke kahahahah!!

Deep screeching voice resounded from the Chimera hanging on the ceiling.

Melipione knit her brows as she mused the identity of the half man in front of her.

There could only one person who entered this room besides her.

"... don't tell me...Wal.. Walcher?"
