"Damn it... Why did this have to happen today..of all days...?"

Mark mumbled as he struggled to get himself and Donghyuck to safety.

After getting out of their classes hours earlier, the two vampires decided to hang out with their friends for a bit since they were all gathering up together. Their friends Renjun, Jisung, and Chenle had all gathered to the apartment room that belonged to their friends Jeno and Jaemin to hang out, and they were the last two that arrived. However, in the midst of their time together, a series of unexpected events unfolded.

Donghyuck started acting anxious once Renjun accidentally cut himself while he and Jaemin were making food for them to eat. Jeno noticed Donghyuck's peculiar behavior like Mark had, but figured that he was just squeamish towards blood and didn't think much of it. However, while Jaemin was patching up Renjun's cut, Donghyuck's behavior only became more and more bizarre. It wasn't until he suddenly rushed to the bathroom that they all became worried.

Mark informed them that he would check and make sure he was alright, but he was already well aware of what was happening. Once he entered the bathroom and closed the door behind him, he was able to confirm that Donghyuck's behavior was caused by hunger. His eyes were tinted red, and he was slightly shaking as he covered his salivating mouth. After waiting with him for a few minutes, they noticed how he wasn't able to calm down. Mark then insisted that they head back home like they had previously intended before things got worse.

However, their other friends had already met them at the bathroom door to check on them and became even more worried after seeing how pale Donghyuck was. They also became suspicious since he wouldn't look at them like Mark was, and tried to get him to look up. But out of his nervousness, Donghyuck tried to move passed Mark and the others and ended up tripping in the process. Jeno managed to grab his arm to catch him before he fell to the floor, but they were all taken aback once he and Donghyuck locked eyes.

They all noticed how red his eyes were and how the hue kept getting brighter the more they stared at each other, and they eventually noticed a bit of his fangs and the scared expression on his face as well. When Jeno tried to ask him about his eyes and fangs, he suddenly yanked his arm away and ran out of the apartment without so much as closing the door. Mark informed them that he would go after him and ran out as well before they could ask him anything.

He knew that Donghyuck was going to run to their makeshift apartment and ran in that direction, but he noticed that they were being followed once he caught up to him and directed him away from the apartment. He ran with him a good distance away from either of the apartment buildings, but they ended up wandering into a hunter territory and were ambushed. Even though they were trying to avoid killing the hunters, once they nearly killed Donghyuck, Mark ended up losing it and killed every last one of the hunters, but not without sustaining injuries himself. After everything unfolded, Mark noticed that Donghyuck was unconscious and lifted him up on his back to carry him somewhere they'd be safe.

-

As he walked, a trail of their blood was being left behind on the ground from their injuries. Mark could feel himself becoming progressively weaker and found it harder to walk with Donghyuck on his back. And as if to make his situation worse, as a result from all of the blood he was losing, he could feel himself growing hungrier by the minute. Despite how he was feeling, he still continued his march to ensure they'd get somewhere safe.

As a surprise to him, as he continued to walk, he ran into someone that had came out to look for them. But when Mark looked up, instead of finding one of his other vampire friends, he found Jeno standing a few feet in front of them. Having accidentally looked him in the eyes, Mark immediately shifted his gaze to the ground as he felt his body start to shiver. He dreaded what would happen if their friends ever found out they were vampires, and was suddenly filled with fear now that the moment had come.

But instead of running away, Jeno walked towards them and crouched down to look Mark in the eyes once again, not a trace a fear present on his face.

"Jeno..."

"So, my suspicions were right. You're both vampires"

"I'm sorry... We were scared to tell any of you... We didn't..want you to hate us..."

"Hate you? Neither of you have ever attempted to hurt any of us for as long as we've known each other. Even today, instead of biting any of us, Donghyuck just ran away like you did. You're clearly not bad vampires, so there's no reason for us to hate you now hyung. You're both still our friends"

Jeno smiled, causing Mark to nearly shed tears from his kind words.

But in the midst of their tender moment, Mark nearly collapsed after losing even more blood, but Jeno managed to catch him to keep him on his feet. Without a second thought, he held onto Mark and guided them back to their apartment to keep them safe.

"There were hunters that did this to you two, weren't there..?"

"..Yeah. I feel so bad Jeno... We were trying not to kill them, but when they hurt Hyuck, I..."

"You killed them to save him. It wasn't your fault. But you're both so banged up. They could've killed you both hyung.."

"I know.. If I would've been faster to stop Hyuck from running out, then he wouldn't have gotten hurt.."

"Wait. How come he was experiencing symptoms of hunger before and you weren't?"

"The last time we fed from blood packs we got from a blood bank, he wanted to try animal blood. He drank one of those pack and I drank a regular one. We already knew from years ago that animal blood doesn't sustain us as well as human blood, but he wanted to try one to see if that had changed over the years.."

"I see.. Don't worry though. Everything's going to be alright hyung. See? We're almost there. After we get up the stairs and head back inside, then we can find a way to help you and Hyuck. You have someone that can help right..?"

Jeno asked as they slowly approached their apartment building.

"We do. We can call one of our other friends once we get inside.. But we'll have to hurry. With the way things are going, Hyuck and I won't be able to heal ourselves if we don't get any blood..."

Mark explained, already feeling his mind becoming hazy as they walked up the stairs.

Jeno knew exactly what he meant, and by the way he worded it, he knew that Mark didn't want to have to resort to taking blood from any of them. But he also knew that their hunger would get worse for them soon if they didn't hurry and get them the help they needed. However, he was determined to help his friends, even if it was a dangerous task.

"...Don't worry hyung. We'll help you and Hyuck get better, I promise"
