You challenge my patience you fight me sometimes
But like me, you love all the time
You hide behind a toughness, you rebel, you mock
Your exterior the fighter, with eyes like a hawk
Yet, inside a sadness of a love you had lost
Alone you carry the burden, no matter the cost
I'm just a shepherd that tried to guide
When heartbreak and sorrow make you cry at night
So much of myself, I see in your heart
We feel way too much, take everything to heart
You love with a fierceness that scares me sometimes
As you watch life's crimes and change of the times
Your honesty cuts like a knife to the bone
When we argue about faith and being alone
In your art and your writing I see the other side
Of a child turned to man with nothing to hide
How proud you make me by standing like a force
A Gail wind of justice for those who have lost
You protect what you love, take care of your own
And each day I watch the hero I've born
May God shower you with a loved one
To share all you beliefs and a sun
That brightens your halo as you carve your path
To become the man, that you can be proud of
I will love you always, without judgement or care
Even if your dreams is not what we share
What we have, a spirit the same
To dare the unknown and chance a burning flame
My heart is at peace, I gave what I could
You search through life and find the good
Grateful for laughter so much of our time
You stay a rock, you, son of mine.
