The police car on Evan's garden felt similar to any other vehicle that's ever been here. It was just like the other cars, and Evan couldn't care less. But why where they questioning him? He was probably the one who knew the least here. Actually no, he knew a lot. But he couldn't respond, even if he wanted too. Of course, because of his untreated anxiety, but mainly because, who was he, and where was he?
Evan tried playing games with his friends. They all stayed other. They decided to stay over at Evan's place until Gregory was back. Then they decided to stay until Evan felt better about Gregory not coming back. They all kindly agreed to take care of him, make sure he eats, he sleeps at least a bit, he takes a bath everyday, and he doesn't hurt himself by anyway.
Evan stopped thinking. The only words that would ever come out of his mouth were "why", "where" and most of the time, "Gregory". It's like if half of his brain was gone, and what remains was covered with pain. Gregory had been missing for a week now. Everything possible had been done to find him, and the police and the volunteers were about to give up. Actually, Evan would've preferred if they just gave up, because he could've dreamed of his boyfriend coming back. But now that they've found his body, it's too late. He was devastated.
Alfred, Gregory's father, decided that now that his son was dead, he cared about him. So yeah, after the boy was found lifeless, with no eyes and no hands, he decided that he would do anything to send the murderer to prison. And for him, the murderer could only be Evan.
Evan sat down at the tribunal. His hair was messy, his clothes all black and a noticeable need to sleep on his face. Face that was still run down with tears, and a blank expression. The judge looked at him with pity. The process hadn't even started, but he remembers Evan from Noah's process. Same judge, same tribunal.
Evan just sat in silence as the judge started reading the declarations and acclamation. Everything was going so fast, his brain hurts him. Every sound, every voice is covered by the sounds of Gregory's cries and pleads. Something happened in the boys head. His brain created this sounds. What for? Maybe for him to ear his beloved one last time, or maybe for him to ear Gregory dying forever. Maybe a punishment for not being good enough for him.
The boy couldn't talk. Anytime the judge asked him to defend himself, he would look at him, then at his advocate. Why was he here? All he could think of was Gregory, and Noah. In Noah's case, Evan was the victim, he suffered. That day, Cindy was wearing a orange dress. She was sitting, alone, calm and correct, in the witness box. Evan was with her, just for comfort. and Noah was in the other side of the room. The accused box. But today, Evan was in the box. So, was Evan Gregory's Noah? Was he the bad guy now? That's not possible. Evan loved, and loves Gregory. he would've never done anything bad to him. But that's what Noah said too. That's what they all say.
Alfred and his advocate didn't manage their words. They took advantage of Evan's position, his fears, and his psychological issues. "I think Evan may have killed Gregory because he feared that he would loose him, like his sister", "He may have done that because of his social phobia, the party could've triggered him" and "Maybe he was scared because the physical contact he's had with Gregory remembers him of Noah" were the ones who tended to pop out the most and get Evan's attention. Evan was silent the whole conference, but whenever that last option was stated, he would suddenly get up and yell at whoever remembered that option. "Are you stupid or do you just act like you are? Do you even know Gregory? He would've never done that. He's never even touched me without permission, why would I be scared?". At first, Evan's reaction caught the tribunal's attention. But thanks to the witnesses who talked about Gregory's respectful comportment and how Evan was actually the more touchy one, that option was eliminated.
For the social phobia, William was the ticket out. He knew his son better than anyone could've though, and he explained with calm why no one at the party could've caused this. He also explained that even during his crises, Evan never got violent. Jeremy then talked about Gregory and how comprehensive he was about Evan, and that he would've easily just calmed him down. And Max brought up more physical proofs, such as the simple fact that the whole fight between Gregory and his murderer happened in the woods, and there was no one else the woods.
For the last hypothesis, Evan doctor explained how things work in Evan's head, and how his phobia had nothing to do with his feelings, and triggers. They all work separately. There were a lot of options and situations that could make Evan Gregory's murderer. But everyone was there, giving their opinion and helping Evan out of that box. Max, Michael and Jeremy, Roselle and her husband, the twins, Charlotte, Suzie and Cassidy, William, Henry and, not for anyone's comfort, but even Noah was there. He was trying to help Evan, kind of trying to fix his errors, even if he knew he could never. He did fight with Michael at the end of the second day of process. After loosing, he never came back.
The days went on, people became more aggressive towards their enemies. Evan's freedom was a war, only he wasn't fighting for. His case ended up on the internet, and even these people understood very fast that he was innocent. They tried to help him as they could, and the tribunal during Evan's process soon became a real theater. Literal hundreds of people next to the tribunal, fighting for him. And Evan had still no reaction at all.
After a month of process everyday, Evan was freed and sent back home.
