Chapter 38-Three steps back

Isabella's POV
"Nicholas, i really don't" Nicholas cuts me off placing a finger on my lips as the stretcher drags me across the hospital corridor

"I need to see if that mother**cker did something bad to you" Nicholas says carefully holding one of my hand and i close my eyes

I open them again and lock at his face, his face is stiff and determined. He holds my hand firmly in his hand while his other hand goes around the stretcher

He looks forward viewing the corridor and i look at his perfect jawline while laying on the stretcher

We soon make our way to the room and the doctors run several tests for me throughout the day

By the end of the day, i feel numb and out of energy so i get offered juice and food that helps me stay focused

"That was something" Carlos says coming inside the room and i look at him

"Please say I'm allowed to go" i say innocently and he laughs a little before sitting in front of me

"You are. I'm here to pick you up" he says and i happily sigh in relief

"Where's Nicholas?" I ask looking around

"He's just finalizing your test results but i think they're good since he asked me to drop you home" Carlos says and i smile

Soon a nurse comes in and removes the last of drips around my hands and i quickly get changed

"Lets go" i say to Carlos who looks around suspiciously

"Whats up" i ask him judging his expressions

"I felt someone looking at us but there's no one here" he says and places a hand behind me

"Stay close to me Isabella" he says in a protective tone and it runs shivers down my spine

He opens the door and we walk out of the room into the empty corridor

Since its late, there's barely people roaming around the corridor

Carlos takes wise steps and i follow behind him keeping close to him

I anxiously look around as we walk across the hallways and outside the hospital

"Woah, that was tough" he says and we get in the car driving to Nicholas's place

We soon reach Nicholas's place and Carlos drops me off

I thank him and make my way inside

"Oh how much I've missed this place" i say as soon as I enter the house and the smell of "home" reaches my nostrils bringing my body at peace

I quickly go to my room for a good warm shower and get changed

I come back into the lounge room and sit on the couch as i patiently wait for Nicholas to come back

A few minutes pass and the empty house starts to get to me

The calmness and quietness of the house makes me feel uncomfortable and i pick up my phone to dial Nicholas

"Isabella what happened" Nicholas asks me as soon as he picks up

"Nothing i just don't feel comfortable, can you come soon?" I plead and the other end goes silent

"I'm getting into the car right now, just wait a little more" he says and i keep my phone away as i get up and walk towards the main door pacing front and back

I hear footsteps behind me and my face goes pale as i sense someone's presence behind me

In one motion, i turn around and see the face i was dreading to see

"Missed me Isabella?" His cold voice talks to me and i shiver at his tone

His appearance is so worn out, it looks like he hasn't had a good sleep and the outfit is the same as yesterday minus the coat he had on

"Cole" i say slowly and his cold expressions turn into a smirk

"We meet again" he says and i feel my whole body tremble at his words

"What- how" is all i manage to say and his smirk fades away

He takes a step towards me adapting a serious look on his face. Frightened i take a step back until my back hits the door

"Cole what are you doing here" i ask him calmly and he stops just two steps away from me

"I'm here for you" he says calmly and takes one step forward

"Why" i ask as i notice behind him

"I think we both know why" he says and i turn my eyes back to him. My eyes drift back and forth to him and to the presence behind him until soon he figures out too

He turns around just in time for Nicholas to hit his head unconscious and he fells to the ground in front of me

"Isabella" Nicholas pulls me to his chest firmly and wraps his arms around me placing his head in the crook of my neck

I can feel his wildly beating heart and for some reason, his embrace makes me feel safe and no tears come out of my eye

"Are you okay?" He asks me looking at my hand and i nod at him

I hug him back for a brief minute and then pull back after I've gained my energy

"How did you know?" I ask him looking at Cole

"You didn't end the call and since i was driving, I didn't notice that you hadn't ended the call and soon i heard your conversation" he said explaining and i sighed

"Lets take care of this then" i say pointing towards Cole
