I was sitting in my history class taking notes.
I forgot to leave my ring at the house so all day I was covering it with my sleeve.
I started doodling in my notebook because I got bored. I was just making simple little drawings when I had to brush away some of the eraser shaving.
"I love your ring." A girl whispered to me.
I looked over at her scared and went back to my drawings.
A couple minutes past I suddenly noticed more people were looking at me.
"Mirana, you want to tell me why everyone is so interested in you today."
"I don't know." I said tapping on my notebook.
"Well come up here then."
I did as I was told and just stood there awkwardly.
"Now will anyone like to tell me why we are all looking at Mirana?"
The girl who noticed it first raised her hand.
"Olivia, yes go ahead." He said clapping his hands.
"She has a ring on that we all wanted to see."
"Oh so you disrupt my class over wanting to see her ring." He said looking over at me. "Let me see if it is worth looking at." I showed him the ring his eyes widened. Oh lord please make it stop.
"Well that is a nice ring you may sit down now." I sat down and covered my hand with my sleeve.
He went on with his little lecture and all I wanted to do was text Sébastien to come get me.
"Mirana if you could stay after class please."
I started packing my things only because the bell was about to ring anyway.
When everyone left I went up to my teachers desk.
"Mirana, I don't mean to get into your business, but who gave you that ring?"
Not to get in my business, I had to tell him because the way adults think is just way out of hand. He could possibly be thinking someone is forcing marriage onto me.
"Um... my boyfriend did. He proposed to me the other day."
"Okay just checking, making sure no one is forcing you to do this." Well there you go the way adults think.
"Yeah thought you weren't going to get into my business." I said.
"Well you are seventeen, you make your own decisions. I just want to know if it is your decision cause if not we can help you."
"First off you should not be talking to me at all like you're my dad or a social worker. Second, yes it was my decision no one is forcing me to do anything, you can call them or my caregiver she will tell you that it was my decision; she knows about it." I said walking away.
When I got to my next class since I was late my teacher was outside waiting to talk to me. Of course it was Mrs. Edmonds my writing teacher.
"Mr. Sato called me and told me you need to go to the principal's office for some behavior. I'm sorry but he said he was gonna call them up there too."
I started heading to the office. They made me wait on the principal and councilor to come out. I was just sitting there on my phone when the lady told me I could go back there now.
I walked into the principals office and sat down.
"I heard you yelled at your teacher, Mr. Sato."
"I did not." I said.
"Well he called saying that you yelled at him about something and walked out."
"I didn't yell at him." I said starting to feel tears build up in my eyes.
"Well what happened?" My councilor said.
"Well in the middle of the class some girl noticed a ring I'm wearing," I showed them. "And then everyone started looking at me and I felt uncomfortable, to make myself feel worse Mr. Sato made me stand up in the class. I understand why he did it though." I whipped my nose with my sleeve. "He saw it, I sat back down and he wanted me to stay after class so I did, it was about my stupid ring, but I didn't yell at him."
"What was said?" The principle asked.
"He said he doesn't mean to get into my business and then asked me who gave me the ring. I told him my boyfriend did. Then he was just making sure I wasn't being forced into it. And I told him that he didn't need to talk to me like my dad or a social worker. And that it was my decision and that he could call him or my mom and talk to them because my mom knows."
"Your stepmom?" He questioned.
I just nodded.
"Well we'll give her a call. Mirana listen he was just doing his job."
"No he wasn't you guys don't know what kinda life I've gone through my whole life. My dad was a pathetic drunk who killed my biological mother, I got bullied everyday when I came to school I even got beaten by my dad for what he did to my mom. He blamed me that I killed her. You guys don't know my life at all. Last year when my friend came to school everything felt amazing I actually felt better than ever. His brother protected me from my dad and their mom let me stay at their manor because I needed somewhere to stay. And for me to be questioned like that by Mr. Sato was horrible; shooting back memories from my past that I never want to go back too."
"Mirana why did you never speak up?"
"What so I could go into the system and go to someone who will love me but I could never love them back? There was no point. Even if I said something my father would have told everyone that I was lying."
"You don't know that."
"I do. You don't know my dad." I sat back in the chair wiping away tears from my eyes.
"How could you have known what he would have said, they could probably see he would've been lying."
"Yeah and then they see my house it would have been spotless like nothing ever happens there." I said turning away. There was a knock on the door. "She said she'll be here in a few." The front desk lady said.
"Thank you."
I just sat there doing nothing but cry.
"Did you want anything to eat Mirana it is your lunch time."
I nodded and the principle left to go talk to someone. In two minutes they were back with my food. Awesome school pizza instead of the other pizza they buy. I just ate the vegetables and the little fruit cup.
"You can eat the pizza." She said. So I tried it and it was okay just not the best. I didn't finish it.
They took the tray away and in came the principal along with Samantha and Sébastien. It wasn't that exciting because Sébastien didn't seem happy to see me he looked angry. Even Mr. Sato came in.
"I'm sorry to have you come all the way out here."
"Mirana got out of hand in my class today."
"What do you mean that doesn't sound like her." Samantha said.
"Well I was having a talk with her today in my class and she started yelling at me."
"Yelling at you? She has never yelled at anyone." She looked over at Sébastien who was shaking his head.
"Well apparently she has an engagement ring on that distracted Mr.Sato's class today. Her and Mr. Sato had a decision and he said that she yelled at him and she stormed out." Said my councilor.
"Mirana, I'd expect it from maybe boys but not you." Samantha strictly said.
"But I didn't yell at him. Why would I yell at him."
"So this argument happened because of an engagement ring?" Sébastien asked.
"Yes sir." Mr. Sato said.
"Mirana tell me what happened." Sam said.
"I was talking notes someone noticed my ring and then everyone else did.. he called me up to the class ... I stood there, he talked, let me sit back in my seat. Umm, told me to stay after class and we talked about it." I said keeping it as simple as possible.
"Tell me about the conversation Mr. Sato."
"I was just asking her basic questions. Where'd she get the ring, who gave it to her. She said her boyfriend and I asked her if she was forced into it. Then she started yelling at me telling me that I should stay out of her business and said it was her decision and then she left my room."
My face said it all.
"Okay, I hear you but my girls face is telling me something different." Sébastien said.
"I agree with you there, Mr. Sato this girl told her side to us she didn't say for you to stay out of her business."
"What did she tell you?"
"That you don't need to talk to me like my dad or a social worker. I didn't yell at you."
"So you guys believe her over me?"
"This is my daughter we are speaking about I believe her." Samantha said. "I know for a fact she doesn't yell and the only three people she yells at are MY two sons and my brother." She said pointing at Sébastien.
"What makes you think she doesn't yell at anyone else?" The principal asked.
"Listen I have staff at home they tend to mess up a lot she gets after them but she's never yelled at them once."
"And your brother he said my girl. What does that actually mean?" My councilor asked.
"They're together." She said.
"You allowed this?"
"Of course, they both liked each other he wanted to be with her and I told him only if she wanted to they could. They got together he expressed to me that he wanted to marry her and I gave him my blessing, but that's all Mirana's decision." Samantha sounded stressed there.
"Well if you okayed it there is nothing we can do about it." They said sounding weird.
"Mirana you are free to go to class."
"Oh she's not going to class I'm going to take her out of school completely." Sam said. "I'm putting her on online school. I don't want this to happen to her again. Shes getting bullied from students and being harassed by a teacher that should be doing his job and staying out of kids lives." She said giving Sébastien my bag and shooing him out of the room and making me get up from the chair and shooing me out also following behind me."You two go home I'll get you out of this school."
"Ma'am please don't report us for not taking action on something like this we didn't know about."
"Know about? Last year she had to sit in here doing school work because I told you guys she couldn't go to her classes because of bullying." She yelled. "No, I'm reporting and also going to take my youngest son out too since my oldest is graduating."
Sébastien grabbed my arm dragged me out of the school and taking me to his car.
"Baby, I'm sorry that happened to you I should have never let you put that ring on." I could hear the guilt in his voice.
"Sébastien, you don't have to be sorry about anything. Just know now I can keep the ring on without having to take it off before school." I smiled. I got into the car putting my seatbelt on. Sébastien did the same and I leaned over and kissed him.
"Baby not here."
"I just wanted to kiss you that was it." I told him. He pulled me into a hug kissing the top of my head.
"Mirana I love you. I really do want to spend the rest of my life with you."
I smiled and kissed him passionately.
"I love you too . Let's got home." I said.
He took off and when we got home all I wanted to do was let him fuck me, but I knew better than that.
