CHAPTER EIGHT
SCARLETT
I was uncertain as to whether Cole or Joel would pick me up from school. After the mentally tiring day I had had, all I wanted to do was stuff my stomach with a huge slice of lemon-flavoured cake after I devoured a large plate of Chinese fried rice with lots of shrimp. I loved shrimp. A few episodes of random sitcoms did not sound bad either; anything to make me feel less tense was welcome.
I successfully got to my locker and picked out all the books that I needed for my homework without the Already Achieved noticing. I wasn't a fan of homework and learning like the other nerds were, but I did the best I could because I needed to work hard to match up to Cole. The position of COO was waiting for me to take up. I did not worry about becoming a COO at an early age as I worried about Cole being CEO because unlike him, I had no social life. I just had to develop confidence before I took the position.
I received a text from Cole, telling me that he had arrived.
I grinned and shut my locker hurriedly.
I was close to the entrance when I heard my name from afar. I turned to see Savannah walking toward me. I groaned inwardly. I adored her but I had had more than enough embarrassment for one day.
"Leaving without a goodbye? I'm wounded." She said when she arrived where I stood.
"I'm sorry, Cole just arrived, and I didn't want to keep him waiting."
"Baby girl, I didn't hear a thing."
As was my custom, I blushed and repeated myself. "I promise I was going to call when I got home," I added.
"Honey, you don't have my number," Savannah said. "And I want us to go dress shopping for my birthday this weekend. Since it is my eighteenth birthday, I've changed my mind and decided to throw a huge party on Friday night and for the actual birthday on Saturday, we'll be going to Paris." She was so excited she looked like she was going to pop.
KAASPA Crew were a year older. Aaron, the sixth member who died, was born with leukaemia. Before they entered first grade, his condition became too severe for him to start school. The doctors decided to keep him in the hospital until he got better. He was meant to start first grade late because of that. His friends, the loving friends that they were, also waited with him so that they could all be in the same grade. Their parents thought it was a sweet way of supporting a friend. Unfortunately, he died within the year. That was how they started school a year later.
"Come on, I'll walk you. Let me ask Cole if you can join us." She spoke. She grabbed my phone on the way to Cole's car and typed what I guessed was her number in it. Couldn't they ask instead of grabbing? I didn't see the need for a passkey on my phone, but I was definitely getting one because of them. "Now you have my number." She grinned.
"The Friday night part, do I have to be there?"
"Baby girl, you are going to be there for both. That is exactly why we are going shopping. It's a tradition Azalea and I have. On my birthday, I buy our celebration outfits for both of us and vice versa. We look for the best and sexiest outfits in the same colour and style. No one must look hotter than us."
Is that even possible?
"Now that you are a member of our little group, you are part of this tradition." She beamed. "And all others." She added. "I'm so excited. None of us has thrown a huge birthday party before, you know. Because so many people would want to attend. Not that it's bad, but then unless we go strictly by invitation, it's going to get too packed, you know. Everyone wants to be around us." She rolled her eyes when she said that. "I love a crazy party, but I always have to be sure I'm not being followed by the media or being filmed by a fan. Most of the time that doesn't work out so well and I end up in the gossip columns but whatever. Our manager likes to keep things organized and scandal-free. That is why we always celebrate amongst ourselves and other selected few teen celebrities and socialites. It's always minor but fun. The others are okay with it being that way because they are much more reserved, especially the Diamond twins."

Romansa"Professor Diamond is your mom?" He looked surprised. I was the spitting image of Siobhan Diamond. "Mm, that's not news." I rolled my eyes. "Contrary to what you might think, I don't spend my time googling you or your friends." "Oh, maybe you shou...
