CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
AZALEA
"Susan is getting out of hand," Kai said with a sigh as he dropped down beside me on my bed. "I met her at the mall today."
I glared at him and shut my laptop. "First of all, for the nth time, knock before you enter my room. Secondly, you told her to meet you at the mall? Is that why you didn't want the bracelet delivered?"
He nodded.
"Why the fuck would you do that?"
"I needed to talk so I did it at a public place. It was convenient. I told her to stay away from us and Scarlett before I have a restraining order made against her because she's hired a private investigator and she knows where they are."
"Well, she can't do anything about it, right?"
"No, but just like her sister, she doesn't care about her reputation or that of her family or ours. She can spew anything to anyone at all. She can go to the press with everything she knows." Frustration was evident in his voice and on his face.
"Calm down" I tried to reason. "Olivia and Owen are safe in Australia; nothing will happen to them. A bazillion guards are manning the house." I stood up from the bed, walked toward my brother and held his hand in mine. "We will let mom and dad know and they will handle this legally, okay? We have the upper hand here."
I knew how destructible my brother could be when he was angry, confused, and felt useless. His frustration could travel from 1 to 100 in seconds and when he got to 100 he was unpredictable. All I wanted to do at that moment was to calm him down before he did something that he was going to regret. Kai had destroyed glasses, tables, and chairs because of his tantrums, and I did not want my room to be his next rage room. It took me a while to design it to my liking and there was no way I was going to let his anger towards a raging bitch destroy it.
I knew my parents were around and they were the best people to handle the issue. If Susan had private investigators trailing Olivia and Owen, then it meant she was out to get us, but what she refused to get through her thick skull was that the Diamonds were not to be messed with. We had the best lawyers and the best support system, which she lacked. She was working with her hatred toward us, and it was going to be her downfall. Not to talk of the fact that her parents were against anything that would bring shame to their family. She started out by pretending to be in love with Kai, but it was very fishy and we caught her on her lie, and now, she was just enraged. We had nothing to do with her sister's death and she needed to get that through her thick skull.
I was able to successfully get Kai out of my room and downstairs to the living room. I breathed out a huge sigh of relief when I heard my parents talking in the kitchen. There was another familiar voice in the living room which I knew I did not quite like, but I could not quite remember whom it belonged to. I pulled Kai into the kitchen where my parents were seated beside each other with their laptops open and chatting with...Jason.
I involuntarily rose an eyebrow.
Jason was seated in front of them with documents stacked before him. He had on the largest smile, which showed his dimples. His curls no longer framed his forehead since he had gotten a haircut and he looked... handsome? It was then that I got to look at him properly; I realised that his caramel skin was smooth but firm, with prominent muscles. It was obvious that he worked out. His facial features were soft and alluring. He could easily get ladies pining for him.
"Azalea!" I jumped at the sound of my mother's voice and glared hard at Jason to cover up the fact that I had been staring at him. I could not believe that I had been caught dead staring at him and that I was even appreciating his beauty.
