CHAPTER FORTY-TWO

SCARLETT

When I woke up it was bright outside, but it was snowing. It was Christmas day, and I was unhappy on Christmas day for the first time in a long time. I sat up in Tracy's bed and sighed. She had opted to set up the guest room for me, but I did not want to be alone so I slept with her in her bed. She was not in bed with me, and her side of the bed was cold.

I stood up, straightened the shorts and t-shirt she had given me to sleep with, which were very loose on me, and walked out of her room to look for her. I needed to freshen up. She was preparing breakfast in the kitchen and directed me to the bathroom to freshen up after giving  me a romper, which was too loose for me as well.

I put my hair in a bun and contemplated turning on my phone although I was still not ready to talk to anyone, but I remembered that I had not spoken to Cole and that he was probably worried. I groaned and went to ask Tracy to use her phone.

"Oh, I spoke to him already."

"Oh"

"Yeah, he called last night. You gave everyone quite a scare. Your chauffeur told him you were here. He wanted to pass by but I told him that you were asleep and that I'd call him if you needed him."

I was glad he did not come. I was learning to adapt without him, and if he ran to me every time I called I would not get anywhere.

I heard relief in his voice when I finally called. He was glad to know that I was okay, and he wanted me to be home with him, Gemini and his family, but after the night I had had, I did not want to spend the day pretending with his family that I had no relationship with. They had arrived during the night when I was with Tracy.

"Thank you so much for putting up with me." I said to her when she placed a bowl of turkey salad, bread, and milk in front of me.

"I don't put up with you. I'm here for you anytime. You are the only one who has bothered to be my friend in a long time. You can call me anytime and I'll be there."

I blushed profusely and chuckled.

Before I could reply there was a knock on the door and her face paled.

I frowned.

"Who is it?" I asked.

"I'm sure its Ezra"

I giggled. "He's actually serious? Wow. Two weeks is a long time to be chasing someone who doesn't want you." I forked some salad and chewed on it, savouring the taste of the dressing. She was a good cook.

When I did not hear anything, I looked up to see her blushing and avoiding my eyes.

My smile fell. "Oh Tracy, you did it again?"

She sighed loudly and there was another louder knock on the door.

"I don't think he's going to go..."

"He won't" She mumbled and went to open the door.

"You owe me details." I laughed. There was nothing like juicy details to brighten up your day.
