CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT

SCARLETT

After three blissful days of countless sex later, It was finally the day to meet his parents. Much to Kai's dismay, my nerves were all over the place and it brought my stutter and whisper back. It was not something that I could fully control, but I had gotten better at controlling it when I was nervous. I did not feel as out of sorts as I would have in the past, so I knew that I would be fine around his family. I just had to get comfortable with them. There was also the fact that I had a bad feeling that I just couldn't shake off. It felt as though something bad were about to happen.

I had missed Azalea and I could not wait to talk to her. Aside from the fact that Kai and I had been too busy enjoying each other's company to chat in the group, Azalea was only allowed to use her phone for a few minutes each hour, so conversation was minimal. She was already back to her usual self, not that she changed, but she was not as weak as she was after the surgery.

I had already packed my clothes into the trunk of Kai's car so that he could take me home after dinner.

As soon as we stepped onto their aquarium porch, the door flew open to reveal his beautiful mom who enveloped me in a firm hug and a giggle.

"Oh, I am so glad you could make it." She beamed.

"Oh, mom. Seriously? You could have waited for us to get in."

She dismissed him with a wave of her hand and spoke something in Tagalog which earned her a groan from Kai. I giggled at their interaction and wondered if he could speak it.

Everyone else was ready to welcome me when we stepped inside. His dad greeted me with a warm smile and a warm handshake, whilst his brothers and Jenna shared hugs with me. I knew their reception had something to do with my social anxiety, but I appreciated it. I felt welcome and it helped to calm my nerves.

"Dinner is ready, let's get to the dining room" Brigida said and led the way.

Azalea wound her arms around mine as we walked. "I've actually missed you; you know." She grinned. 

"I've missed you too."

"You look extremely satisfied, are you sure you have an appetite for food?" She whispered.

I blushed hard.

Why did she always find pleasure in embarrassing me?

Since she whispered no one heard, but her laugh was loud enough to catch their attention.

"Leah, I hope you aren't disturbing her?" Brigida asked with a warning glare.

"Not at all Mom, Just making sure that she enjoyed the view of the stars as she came. Star gazing is known to give so much pleasure."

I swallowed my gasp and averted my eyes to Kai who immediately turned when he understood her sexual innuendo of 'seeing stars' during sex.

He sent her a warning glare and continued his conversation with his father.

She wiggled her eyebrows at me and took her seat at the dining table since we had already gotten there.

Kai pulled out a chair beside Azalea which was meant for me, and he sat on my left.

Dinner with the Diamonds was terrific. They had excellent cooks and conversation flowed amongst them. They were the dream family. 

They asked questions to know me better, but whenever the questions teetered towards my childhood, Kai found a smart way to avert their attention. After his second attempt, Azalea and Brigida caught on and also helped to keep the conversation light as well.
