CHAPTER THIRTY- ONE

SAVANNAH

The room that I woke up in was dark, but it was because the blinds were closed. I could see light peeking in from the middle of it. The next thing I realised was that I could smell Cole around me. I sat up and allowed my eyes to adjust to Cole's room before I stood up. As soon as I stood his door opened to reveal Cole carrying a tray of what smelt like chicken soup.

"You're up" He balanced the tray with one hand and turned on the light with the other.

I could not hide the nervous and remorseful feeling from reflecting on my face. I could have killed the one person who wasn't in my clique who actually cared for me more than my flesh and blood did.

There were so many things that I wanted to say and apologize for, but I could not bring myself to speak. My words were stuck at the back of my throat.

He put the tray on the bed and motioned for me to sit and eat. I immediately obeyed, whilst he took out his phone and began texting. The silence that engulfed us was not as awkward as I thought it will be.

I wondered if he cooked the soup himself. It was delicious. I doubted that he did because he had people to do that, and I doubted that he would want to waste his time cooking for someone who broke his heart.

"I called my doctor to come and check up on you. He left 2 hours ago. How are you feeling?" He asked.

I looked up at him shyly and nodded to signal that I was okay.

"Are you in pain?"

I'm depressed. I shook my head.

"I called your parents and your sister."

I winced.

"Your sister told me to call your parents and your parents told me to talk to your sister. They didn't even let me finish my statements. Your sister didn't pick up when I called her back."

He had always suspected that my family and I never got along since I always avoided talking about them.

I cleared my throat. "They are very busy people."

"Too busy for their sister and daughter?"

I shrugged.

He placed his hand under my chin and lifted my head up to meet his eyes. Surprisingly. My eyes didn't water.

"I don't want to jump to conclusions or even talk about this after you just woke up, but I think it is pretty clear to me what is going on."

He did not retract his hand for  a while and I had to fight the urge to lunge at him with a kiss.

"If it's okay with you, I really don't want to talk about it."

"That is fine. But were you trying to kill yourself?"

"No" I replied quickly. He stared at me hard and long and I knew that he did not believe me.

"Either way, I'd prefer if you stayed here with me where I can keep an eye on you."

"I'm not a child."

"No, you are not. But you just had a somewhat accident and collapsed. I'd prefer to keep an eye on you whilst your family are away. I've already had one of the guest rooms prepared for you."

"I can stay with my friends."

"I'd prefer if you stayed here."

"With the way you've planned to babysit me I'm surprised that you aren't making me share a room with Scarlett." I rolled my eyes.
