It was uncertain what actions Lexa would take against Jaha, but she showed mercy by releasing me and Kane. She guided us out while covering our heads with a bag. We were not restrained in any way and were grateful for Lexa's decision to set us free.

As I took a step forward, Kane suddenly pulled me back and embraced me tightly. It was the second time he had hugged me since we arrived on the ground. I realized that he had been wanting to do that ever since our first hug, but we were in the middle of a crowd of people who thought I was a Grounder.

It had been ten years since I'd seen him, I was almost in tears when I returned the hug, realizing that he didn't hate me for what I did, but I still felt horrible for leaving him. "I'm sorry," I kept repeating to him. It felt foreign to be embraced by him again. "I'm sorry for leaving."

Kane and I pulled away, and he finally got a good look at what I had become. "Where's your sister?" Kane asked me. He cupped my face in his hands, and I didn't feel like a warrior anymore. I was 13 again, trying not to show weakness.

"Clarke said she was in Mount Weather... with the rest of them. Jasper Jordan, Monty Green, Nathan Miller. She said they were there."

Kane pulled me into another hug, and over his shoulder, I saw the door we left through. "We have to get back." I took his hand and led him in the direction of Alpha Station. I had so many things I wanted to say, but at the same time, I didn't know what to say, and I thought he felt the same.

He considered Camp Jaha his home, but I didn't know if I could. As we walked, I stared with a grimace at the bandage on my leg. The pain was noticeable, but it was faint. I didn't want to show Kane that I was hurt. I wasn't sure if he knew I had been shot by one of his guards, and I wasn't going to tell him.

I was terrified to return to Camp Jaha, and Kane could see that. Even before coming to the ground, I always felt different than the people of the Ark because of Strisis. I had to grow up quickly when she was born.

The closer we got, the more nervous I was. "The only ones that know are Finn, Bellamy, and Clarke," I told Kane. "Only ones I told."

After a few hours, I could see the walls of Camp Jaha through the tree line. Two Grounders on horses were outside the gate, and we spotted more Grounders just within the treeline. When they spotted Kane and me, they stepped away from us. "Chil yu daun(Stand down)," I said, "Your Commander is giving us more time." To my surprise, they listened. If this were anytime in the past, they would have already tried to kill me. But since it was found out that I was a Nightblood, so much had been different. "Let us talk to our people." One of them nodded and blew a horn, and the Grounders began to retreat.

When the riders were gone, Kane and I stepped out of the treeline with our hands raised. "Don't shoot!" Kane called. "Don't shoot!" I grew more nervous the closer I got to the gate. My legs shook, but I tried to hide it.

We put our hands down when we were in complete view of the guards. "Marcus," Abby said.

"Chancellor," Kane responded. We stopped just in front of the gate.

"I was afraid that I wouldn't see you again."

"I had those fears myself." Kane looked passed Abby. "It's good to see this place again."

Bellamy and Clarke approached us. I never thought I'd be so happy to see Bellamy alive. "You can't be out in the open. We need to get somewhere safe," Bellamy said.

"It's safe for the moment," Kane told him. "Come on, we need to talk." Kane led me through the gate. "We managed to buy us a bit of time."

Abby, Kane, and I walked inside the station. I had eyes on me the entire time I walked through the camp, and for the first time, I was ashamed to hold my head up high. Abby explained the offer Lexa made. I was devastated when Finn's name fell from Abby's mouth. The massacre that Gustus spoke about was done by Finn's hand, and now Lexa wanted him dead.
