This is a flashback chapter, and it is incredibly long. This chapter contains 10 years' worth of events between Jules leaving Polis after killing Esau and the day the 100 reach Earth. I don't expect you to read the entire thing, but it contains events mentioned in past chapters and events mentioned in future chapters. Not everything that was mentioned in past chapters is in this because it is already incredibly long.

One month after leaving Polis - April 4th, 2140

Joan and I found ourselves in a cave with no clear plan of action. Despite my efforts, starting a fire proved to be challenging, and we could not cook the small amount of food we had managed to hunt down.

"Should we go to the trading post?" Joan asked. "I'm sure someone there could help us."

"If they don't kill me," I said. If I went to a trading post, I could be recognized as the murderer I was and be killed.

It had been a month since I was called Fragheda, and by now, everyone should recognize my face.

I left the cave and put my hood up to hide my face. I went to the spot where I had hidden my weapons and uncovered the loose dirt above them. I grabbed my sword, the one that belonged to Esau, and started my trek to the nearest trading post.

Having a place where I could safely go to get supplies would be handy, but it would be risky.

The nearest trading post was the smallest one in the area. I walked in and kept my head down. There was someone near the front, and she saw me walk in. "Heya, na ai sis yu au kom enthing(Hello, can I help you with anything)?" she asked. I didn't turn my face to look at her, instead scanning around to see what my options were.

My eyes fell on some thick clothes, nicely knitted to last through the colder months. I went straight to them and picked out two of them, walking up to the girl who was about my age. I grabbed my backpack and looked for something to trade, and I found a box, holding it out to the girl.

"Na dison gran op(Will this work)?" I asked, showing her the contents of the box. It was three bracelets, made by my hand on the Ark.

The girl looked at them and smiled. "Disha ste meizen(These are pretty)," she said. She took the box and started calling for someone in the back. An older man came out and looked at my bracelets. They were saying stuff that I didn't understand, and the man came up to me. I looked up at him and he saw my face.

"Chon yu bilaik(Who are you)?" he asked, stepping toward me. I could lie about who I was, but behind him, I saw a drawing of my face. He was testing me.

"I--" I didn't say anything. "I'm sorry... please... I just need help. My sister and I are struggling to start a fire, we're cold--"

"Sis Fragheda au(Help the Commander Killer)," he ordered. He knew who I was, but he wasn't ordering my death.

He went into the back. The girl up front took my trade, but before I could leave, the man came back with some equipment. "Mafta ai op(Follow me)." I was scared, but I followed the man outside. "Sin daun(Sit)." He pointed to a spot on the ground.

He knelt in front of me with his equipment. He didn't talk to me, but he made sure I was watching. He his sticks that were attached with rope and started rubbing them together in a fast motion, allowing friction to heat the stick.

I watched him get down and blow, sparking a small fire. He started feeding it a little until it was a good fire that could be used to cook food. I didn't realize right away that he just taught me how to effectively start a fire.

"Mochof(Thank you)," I said. As soon as I'd get back to the cave, I'd start a fire for me and Joan.

I started my trek back to the cave, hoping Joan was safe. This was the second cave we took shelter in because the first one had been raided by a party of six, trying to find me.
