✶𝙶𝚛𝚎𝚢𝚜𝚘𝚗✶
I wake up with a slight pain in my neck, uncomfortably propped up against the door. I'm not even sure how I managed to fall asleep here.
With a groan, I manage to stand up, rubbing my neck as I yawn. I try blinking away the remains of sleep as I walk over to the bed.
My hand raises to rest on where I think her shoulder would be, but I hit the mattress.
It takes me a few seconds to register the fact that I didn't just rest my hand on a warm body. My brows slowly bunch together and I lift my hand to try a different spot in the bunched up blanket only to hit the mattress again.
"What the hell?"
I pull the covers back in one swift motion, exposing the empty mattress for what it is. Empty. Completely and utterly empty.
I stare at the empty bed for a few extra seconds, still processing what I'm liking at. Very slowly, my gaze drifts towards the window to my right. The open window.
I curse under my breath as I rush to the window, sticking my head out only to check the distance down below.
Shit.
It's not that high up. And if she were desperate enough, she could make it. If she was desperate enough to leave me.
I storm out of the room, pissed off. A little at her, mostly at me.
Of course she'd fucking bolt the first chance she got. I would too. It was my fault for trusting she wouldn't.
I manage to quickly slip on a pair of shoes and a jacket before rushing out of the door. I don't know how long she would've waited for me to fall asleep so I have no idea how far she could be. I don't know what direction she would've gone in.
I round the cabin first, going right under the window where she would've jumped out in. I can already see a vine she would've climb down to make it to the ground safely. I can't see any footprints so she managed to cover her tracks.
My eyes scan the tree lines, seeing no sign that she was even here. I can't find what direction she went in.
She's gone.
I let out a little breath, running my hand through my hair as I walk back towards the front of the cabin. I slam the door shut behind me.
"Jesus,"
The soft and startled voice makes me freeze. I stare glancing around for her. "Sophia?"
Sophia scoffs from the other room. I'm quick to hurry over into the kitchen. I blink a few times when I see her standing there with a half eaten granola bar in her hand.
"What is your problem?" She harshly questions. "You scared me!" She yells at me like she isn't afraid of me in the first place.
I stare at her, dumbfounded. "You didn't run." I mumble, shocked by that fact. She didn't run from me like I thought she did.
Sophia's eyebrows furrow. "What?" She asks. "Of course I didn't run. I told you I wouldn't." She scoffs, offended I even thought she did.
I still stand here like an idiot, staring at her like I've never seen another human being before in my life. "You weren't there when I woke up." I tell her, numbly pointing my thumb over my shoulder. "The window was open so I thought..."
Sophia shakes her head. "It was stuffy in there so I opened the window. Didn't think you'd care." She casually explains. "I went to the bathroom too. Also didn't think you'd care."
